Tire/Wheel Coverage worth it?
Just pulled the trigger on a new stratus grey XFR (a 13 that was unsold for quite some time). Purchase is already done, but they are offering a tire & wheel coverage plan from ROAD InTire, 5 years for $1000 (discounted from $1500).
I'll try to condense this as much as possible from the brochure but in short, it says:
100% reimbursement for a covered road hazard with no deductible or hidden fees for tires/mounting, wheels, valve stems, sales tax, balancing, customary labor charges.
It says the tire/wheel guarantee protects from common road hazards such as metal, nails, potholes, glass and debris.
Any thoughts on whether or not this is worth it? I have the stock Nevis wheels, and whatever the stock tires are (i am picking the car up tomorrow, so i can't see the tires in person right now).

Congratulations on the new car - I'm sure you'll love it!
The 20inch wheels are relatively exposed to road hazards like pot holes and pretty easy to bend or even break. But at $1000 you'd have to loose a couple of wheels or 3-4 tyres to justify that sort of cost. If you lived in the north-east or MW with snow, ice and lots of pot holes I'd say it was worth it. But as it looks like you are in TX then it doesn't sound as necessary. Think it just comes down to your own estimate of how often you might need to call on it - and the relatively high cost of tyres (and replacement wheels!)

Good points. Thanks for the input. While i've had minor issues like screws/nails in tires, all were easily fixed for $10 at my local tire shop. Never had any wheel damage on any car i've ever owned, so think I'm going to pass.

Onthe other hand, these damned 20" tires will not survive a pothole strike. I ruined a tire and it's replacement in one weekend! I do not remember having a road hazard failure in the past 30 years of driving before this!

Living in the Northeast, I bought the tire/wheel coverage thinking that I would eventually hit a pothole on one of NJ's "beautifully maintained" roads. But my XKR is now a garage queen during the winter months. I don't think I'll get to exercise my warranty. Just my $0.02.

I paid $500 for my tire/wheel coverage which also included door ding repair. I popped a tire a week later on some road debris and that one rear S/C tire was $500. $1000 seems like a lot though. Talk them down.
Put a $1,000 in your savings account in case you have to replace something. You can get the wheels and tires a lot cheaper than what Jaguar is quoting you.
If you need any replacement ask here for the best price, somebody always has a link. Then you can still take this online offer and ask your dealer if they would match it because you prefer to give them the business, done, almost always works.
I had road hazard twice and twice I had an incident where it was not covered by the coverage. Not worth it but that is just my humble opinion.

I realized that my own posting isn't entirely accurate.
I replaced two 45-series tires and had two 17" wheels repaired. The 75k miles since resizing to 16" wheels and 60-series tires have been trouble free in terms of road damage.
Recently an XK8 owner was asking about replacing his 18" wheels with 16" wheels, and using taller profile tires, because of road damage to the lower profile tires.
Still, though, $1000 seems like a lot of money for the coverage, IMHO.
Cheers

I have also bent three wheels in the last two months on roads down here. The Nevis wheels are definitely not that strong, or it could be a combination of that and the size. Either way it is only $75-100 per wheel to fix at a good shop. That is 3 more wheels than I have bent in the last 15 years of driving. Now I also broke a tie rod from one of those pot holes and that was definitely not that cheap to fix...
Sounds like a lot but depends on what amount of risk you are willing to assume
That being said; met a fellow in 2013 XJ8 last week coming back from the mall he was parked on the side of the road with flashers going, stopped and ask if he needed some assistance. In talking with him while waiting on the tow truck, he had just had a service at the local dealer, pick up his Cat was headed to the mall came around the curve hit a pot hole on centerline side of the lane blew two tires and destroyed two rims. Sure would have been nice to have had that protection.

My thoughts, albeit from experiences with other models (not to mention makes)...
1) what replacement tire are they putting on if there is damage? OEM or the cheapest thing on the shelves?
2) can the replacement be done at any tire shop or do you have to go to the dealership? And if it is only a dealership, will they cover the towing?
3) what wheel coverage might exist through your insurance carrier? I have the option of getting a rider for coverage on some non-stock wheels that are on the Miata that would have cost me between $5-8 per month and that would cover road damage in addition to actual theft.
4) what would a replacement wheel run on fleabay or a local salvage yard? I have had a few vehicles where I got replacement wheels, often for use as a full-size spare and where the wheel was far less than the dealership would have billed out for...
5) what are the normal driving conditions? I've been all over Texas and seen all sorts of road conditions...some make it worth the money and others not so much. I cannot recall the last time I used road-hazard protection and, in fact, skipped it on the last several sets of tires for the Miata as well as a couple of sets that went on the one-ton 4x4 truck (may it rest in peace).
