Default XF is a battery eater

2009 XF premium luxury, 18,000 miles. Dealer decided that the battery wasn't providing enough voltage so the fitted a new one a few months ago. car is now powerless in the garage only 6 months later, with a dead battery. Whats up with that?

Gotta be a current leak somewhere. Dealer should do a power off current leakage test. Check for battery drain with the car off and no accessories on including the alarm.

FWIW my sales person told me that when you park the XF in the garage you should always lock the doors as this is the only way to put it "to bed". I.E. the computer system is always in some sort of stand-by mode unless the vehicle is locked. I haven't had any issues but I drive my car daily. If you let it sit for more than a day or two, you might try locking it when you park it. My wifes CTS locks automatically when you walk away which can be a pain, but maybe they (Cadillac) have similar issues?

No, that is not true, But the battery "eating" issue is true, Now i don't no what year your XF is, but there is a reflash for the intertainment system depending on VINS, TSB, not a Recall, because it kills the battery, it basically wakes up and drains when it's not suppose to. Also this car will go to sleep in two minutes after arming it if there is no drain. The older jags took like 45 minutes after arming. Now you can't go to the dealer and say "Do this TSB, you have to wait for the issue to arrise before they will do it." depending on the dealer of course.

A drain should be checked with the car armed, not disarmed. Not like it makes a difference though. After two minutes the car should be at about 20mA. I've had one issue where the drivers seat module was causing a drain on an XF, but this new TSB for reprograming the entertainment system is probably the most likely cause.

that's what we have been told as well, the problem was that we were leaving the car unlocked in the garage for days at a time, it couldn't handle it I guess. Now the car is locked in the garage and there have been no more problmes

My XF has spent three stationary sessions of four weeks unlocked in the garage and no battery problems. If the battery is failing there is something wrong with the car. I never lock the car in the garage, that is just an invitation to a broken window as well as the theft from the vehicle. If the garage is locked then the thief isn't going to baulk at breaking into the car.

My 09XF (@30 months, 25K miles) is left in the garage (unlocked) frequently for a week or more. I was told early on (service advisor) that the key should not be left in/near the car, as this caused computer activity and battery drain. I have hung the key about 12' away for a couple of years now with no battery issues. Also, I discovered only recently that the nav/audio system can be turned on without the key present; handy for changing CD's or entering NAV data.

I had the same problem with my XF model. Finally i found the problem. When you turn off the car, sometimes the light in the Control Panel, where the heating/cooling..and the Jaguar sign stays on. Make sure that the light is out by pressing the knob which controls the music (source) that solved the problem. Now i can leave the car all week and it starts. I think i solved the Battery drain problem.
