Default Help neeeded changing 1999 VDP XJ8 fuel injector FAQ

Hello Everyone,
My fuel rail is not easily removed after taking out the two top clamp bolts and all of the fuel injector retaining clips. Anyone have detailed instructions?

Thank you

Why are you replacing them?

Hello Sir,
I noticed an uneven idle and a slight shaking in the engine while driving which got worse to the know limited performance codes and misfire on cylinder 7. I changed the coil, spark plug and checked the injector with a NOID light. After putting in injection cleaner last year I had the same issues and then it cleared up. The injector is the last electrical thing to troubleshoot so I bought a new injector and after this is fixed I am sending all the originals down to Florida for cleaning and testing. I just can't get the fuel rail off and needed a detailed instruction from someone.

Unable to help, never had reason to replace or remove one.

Mathew:
The fuel lines are connected with what I think are just called "quick connect"fittings. There are special tools which are fairly cheap used for their removal. available in kits at any auto parts or tool store (Harbor freight, AutoZone, etc).
I am not exctly sure about a MY 99 NA engine, since the supercharged one in my MY 99 is different, as is my MY 02 NA engine.

Your diagnosis sound reasonable to me, but I would check the compression in number 7 while I was at it. And we are talking about the cylinder three back on the left hand side, right?

Thank you very much, Sir.

I was blessed to carefully lift both fuel rails and "pop out" all 8 fuel injectors. I thought about replacing just the one that was misfiring but I thought while the tools are out I would send them all down to Florida for a complete overhaul. Your idea about compression testing is probably a good time while the fuel pump relay is out and the car is not being used. Can I perform a compression test with all of the injectors out and just crank the engine for a couple of seconds? What should I see as a favorable pressure? It is cylinder 7 on bank 2, the second cylinder on drivers side from the firewall to the front.

Default Thank you

Hello Mr. Lombardi,
I could not find this on the CD and I thank you very much for your time posting this information for me. This is the first fuel injection service I have ever done and I hoping the misfire problem is only an electrical/fuel injection issues. Coils throughout the engine are now new with spark plugs, and next will be tested and overhauled injector on my wife's 1999 vdp.

Yes: is would be good to do it now. The compression numbers should be about 170 to 190 psi, but the most important thing is the variation betweeen cylinders. No motre thjat 10 to 20 psi is good. A "blowdown test" is better for identifying cylinder wall problems, but takes more equipment (see archives). Valves, head gaskets and so on are readily identified with a compression test.
