Default Project: 350 Small Block Chevy into 1999 XJ8

Well guys, I'm about to embark on this crazy swap which apparently has not been done before. If you have seen a swap like this or similar please don't hesitate to post up about it. Links are great!! Any insight will be great!!

As of right now, I've got an empty engine bay and an engine & tranny bolteg together sitting on my garage floor. I have some misc Jag parts ready to go with it (fan, radiator, etc) but not much else.

Wanting to know if there are any production swap mounts out there for this.

I have seen some LS swap parts for the newer engines, but not the older SBC engines.

I'll try to get some pictures up so you can see what I'm working with.

Thanks for any help you can give!!!

Jags That Run (JagsThatRun.com) has been doing this for 20 years. Here is a link to their Jaguar conversion site. Jaguar V-8 Conversion, manual for Jaguar V8

There is also a thread running at the moment on the XK8/R forum with more current discussions on the LS FI engines/transmissions. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...nto-xk8-61020/

Jaguar Specialties (Jaguar Specialties) claims to have everything you need to do a LS FI swap but few details at this point.

Good luck! I am nearing completion of a Ford 302 V8/4R70W into an '82 Volvo 245. Been a lot of fun and a great education.

. . . and welcome to the forum!

This was somewhat common years ago -- an old Jaguar with engine trouble was not worth much ......so people would slap in a Chevy V8/ turbo hydromatic.

They were never worth much.

With the Jaguar V8 being such a nice motor and available to swap out -- I don't see the upside.

Good luck with it -- they are always interesting projects.

Andrew at Jaguar Specialties is a regular poster on the JAG-Lovers forum (LUMPS)
I have a 1985 LUMP that I bought for $500 and needs work. I read that forum for ideas on what people are doing.
Andrew has an XK8 with a Chevy engine/trans kit that is supposed to have the 'bugs' worked out.

Thank you guys for the links. I'll check them out.

I'll do some searching over on JL.com to see if I can figure anything out.

Do you guys know anything about the CAN/BUS system? What all it controls...how it works, etc...

Also, it appears that the "Jags That Run" and the "Jaguar V8 Conversions" are tailored to the earlier vehicles. The ones without all the electronic controls. I think that all those systems are going to make this swap nearly impossible without using a system like the "Jaguar Specialties" one.

But I'm going to keep trying before I give up!!

I'm still waiting for a conversion kit to fit the Jag AJV8 into a caddilac to replace that horridly unreliable American POS the Northstar or perhaps a kit that puts a Porsche 928 V8 in place of a Ford or Chevy big block into an old muscle car (www.V8sthatbreath.com) that actually makes REAL Bhp rather than the lie SAE gross numbers

Well, I need to start a new thread. We're no longer doing the 350 swap. We've seen that it's pretty much impossible to go that direction without MAJOR hackage and totally turning the '98 Jag into a '82 Chevy Citation. It seemed extremely stupid to do that...so we changed direction and picked up a 4.8 LS motor with 4L60E. We have purchased the Jaguar Specialties kit and it should be here this week. So good progress should be made by next weekend!!

@ Count Iblis, the Northstar was a an excellent engine, more power than the AJ-V8 and they overcame the transverse mounting problem exceptionally well. The 1997 year had a lot of trouble with head gaskets breaking, but I've seen those engine go 150k-200k with some regularity.

The service intervals designated by Cadillac can't be used though. Oil every 15k? Bad idea, unless you want it to crap out at 90k.

@HectorM52, sorry the swap didn't work out.... the engine bay is not configured for a 90º engine of that size. However, there is plenty of room under the bonnet for a 6.0 litre 60º V12.
