Default Subframe V mount broke again??

I while ago had a movement clunk under hard or pumping braking from the

front subframe ,just like the whole thing would come lose ....

I Replaced the :

1 Front subframe V mounts ,the rubber that was gone and the subframe was
loose in the mount ,glad it has sort of build in safety brackets..

2 Front subframe round mounts ,on the rear they were weared..

3 The 2 front motor/engine mounts ,showed pics before they were in 2 pieces ,maybe because al of the movement /play from the subframe

4 The rear gearbox mount that was broken also ,the rubber was loose

Thougth the problem was over ,but just now...under hard breaking

I heard a hard clunck ,it was just like the subframe came loose again

The movement off the frame and engine BROKE the hose connector to the power steering fluid bottle ,and the power assistent failed {PIC} ....also the REDUCED POWER light came on, in the dash .

Is this normal when you loose your power assistent?

I will order a new steering fluid bottle tomorrow and that d... fluid thats all over my engine bay......

And i wil check the V MOUNTS ..what broke or failed AGAIN..

Just fixed the Reduced Performance warning .

The MAF connector was also loose because of the movement of the engine/subframe.

Cant see what happend with the subframe or mounts yet {a broken bolt or torn mounts ?}..

i first have to replace the broken power steering fluid bottle ,so hopefully i have the power steering again ..

Maybe they were overtightened. The specification is surprisingly low at 22-28 NM.

Then again, like many load bearing fasteners on these cars it is smaller in diameter than what some people are accustomed to.

Just replace with genuine parts. The car deserves it, you know the score Roy.

Plums has given the torque spec' and by the look of it they where over-tightened by some way. Get new Jaguar bolts too.

I know Sean ,learned my lesson with that ...,i already got 4 new bolts and washers .

Just asked the Ebay seller to conform its was a Original V mount ,because i never buy trash aftermarket parts anymore.

At the time Jaguar had them in backorder ,so i ordered them from Ebay
The advert says : Manufacturer:Jaguar PART NUMBER: MNC2360AB
my thoughts it was original

When i take them of the car thursday i can inspect them better ,next to the new ones from the dealer..

Yesterday got the subframe V mounts from the Jaguar specialist

They put the new original V mount on ,i have made pics to compare them

First picture is scary the belt safety holders/brackets also broke ....

I got a reply from the Ebay Jaguar seller ,i have to send the broken

V mounts back to the UK and his supplier will check them out for a refund....

The ad says Manufacturer JAGUAR......with original part number

I have more damage caused by this inferior part ,i feel a bit misled by the Ebay ad but i will send them back
To the seller hope they will not sell them anymore, i think this part is not safe.
What wil happen if you brake at very high speed when the front subframe comes loose?......

Checking these dangerous fake V subframe mounts the seller want back for inspection ,

the brand is probably IMC URO..

The price of these fake V subframe mounts is about $25/35 on Ebay

I payed $208 {50 UK pounds a per mount} on Ebay from a big Jaguar Parts

store with 100% feedback.....

I added a sales picture from the seller with the fake URO mounts

I you look closely where the mount holds the subframe the bolthead has no room left it touches the rubber ..

Wow the difference in quality is eye opening. I'm so glad I bought OE Jaguar mounts. One of the business mentioned on this site before tried to sell me the after market URO saying it was the same as Jag. I don't think so...

Thank you for the pics. Hope things are smooth sailing now.

Chris

Just to confirm ,the ebay seller has refunded the broken subframe V mounts.

The quality of these aftermarket V mounts is very bad .

It can be life threatening when the front comes loose under hard braking.

Plz only buy the original subframe V mounts at the dealer or suplier..

DJRoy....this car sounds like it has had it's fair share of abuse....not necessarily in your hands ;o)
Have you checked the condition of the large rear mounts in the front subframe?
Movement here will exacerbate movement in the V-mounts...no matter what brand.
The entire drive line in these cars is mounted independant to the body to acheive the legendary quiet ride.
As the mountings age, they will deteriate.
From the gearbox rear cradle especially soaks up a lot of torque twisting especially when the loud pedal is punche a lot.
The whole systems integrity relies on each subframe member from rear cradle to round locating bushes, to V-mounts, to engine front dampers.
If any ofd these are suspect or worn, it places further load on other bushes in the chain....di it once....do it right ;o]
All this slop and movement has caused other damage as you have found out.

Yes xjay8 same time i replaced the round subframe bushes bought at the J dealer .

{I know what happens with the gearbox and engine mounts when one breaks..}

I know if they were worn it would ruin the new V mounts also ,so i replaced both.

The V mounts bushings on the front were not available and in backorder so i Got without knowing ,the aftermarket mounts from Ebay and they fell apart within a few weeks..

The original mounts were 12 years old and had deterioate from age and all the stress rubber mounts/bushings gets over the years.

Default 'V' Mounts

DJ-Roy,

I have started to encounter the same clunk under heavy breaking. Are the 'V' mounts a DIY job to change? If so what is the best way to do the work. I am a DIY mechanic with recourse to the usual Axle stands, Ramps and Trolley Jack.

Thanks

Bill W.

Before Lowering the subframe there are important things to do first ,

Or you end up with al the problems my broken mounts caused to the car .

My mechanic did the job twice to change them ,on a two post car lift.

Everything that is attached to the body and subframe/engine with Minimal play will snap or break when lowering the frame also the mount bolts are difficult to get at.

Maf sensor plug take it off ,power steering fluid bottle take it of ..

And probably more because i now have a fuel smell sometimes and Restricted performance light ,hard hasitated shifts and no power a few times after the subframe mount broke ..

Maybe a intake leak because of stress from the loose subframe ,but i have to get the codes....

A lot those URO rubber parts come from India -- and they are junk. Lots of problems with them on the MB boards.

Same thing with seals on other parts.

On critical parts I'm an OE guy.
