Default 17 inch 456 wheels....

OK, so this is a bit if a fantasy but it might work... In the region I am currently the size of the dimly lit potholes can (almost) consume your whole car... Anyway, last night I hit a big one and my front left wheel broke; literally. I thought I had just had a very bad blow out - two gaping holes in the side wall, but when we (went to) replace the tire today we found two holes in the rim from the impact....!

So as I hate bumpy roads, this may be an opportunity to drop down to 18 inch wheels. No problem.... But then I thought about finding a 17 inch wheel with unusually large internal space for the brake caliper. Now if you look at the Ferrari 456 wheels, they are 17 inch and have (relatively speaking) huge clearance internally (i.e. within the rim) to fit the large Ferrari brake calipers....

So this could be a fun spring project. I have found a reasonably priced set of 456 wheels, but how can I measure the calipers and amount of space required without buying the wheels to try it? Would Ferrari know the internal clearance on their 456 17" wheels and would Jaguar know (or share) the exact amount of space needed?

A fun project, I know - but I hate bumps... and 18 inch (from 19 inch) will not make too much of a difference but 17 inch will make a huge difference...

Thanks everyone !!!.

Some 456 wheel data: -
  • Center Bore / Hub Bore: 67.1 mm
  • Bolt Pattern (PCD): 5x108 (5x4.25)
  • Wheel Fasteners: Lug bolts
  • Thread Size: M14 x 1.5

I don't know if you're in the U.S. or not, but here in the states it's not too uncommon for the municipalities that are in charge of upkeep of the road that the damage occurred on to reimburse the driver for damage caused by potholes and hazardous road conditions. You could contact the public works department of the county, city or state depending on who owns the road or if it was near home maybe your political representatives office to find out if they have a process for handling vehicle damage due to road conditions.
If so, you'd likely have to provide info on when & where it happened and info on the damage of course.

The PCD is right (5x108) so that's a good start but I dunno how you get around lug nuts vs lug bolts.
Maybe you can get special adapters that bolt up to the Jag wheel lugs that then have threaded bolt holes between each lug hole to suit the Ferrari lug bolts?
Then you would need hub rings to reduce the centre bore from 67.1 mm to 63.4 mm but they should not be too hard to find.

If that were indeed the policy in the area where I live, I'd be hitting up my county/town for 2-3 wheel alignment on my Jeep, EVERY year!!

QP7, in my humble opinion, going to the 17 inch wheel has a lot of risks on fitment and conversion. Consider the driving performance and appearance as well. If I were bent on getting a higher profile tire, I would go to the 18 inch Jaguar wheel designed for the car by Jaguar. I'm assuming the Jag 2016 MY 18 inch wheel designed for the diesel will fit your model.

Thank you all - much appreciated.

Been a long week... time for some destressing...

BTW - had to drive a mini today as the XJ needs a new belt. Mini = Yikes!! Still recovering from the onslaught on the senses...
