Default 2011 XJ jerking on stops

So i've had this car for about 7 months and since I've had it it jerks hard when coming to a stop as if the car wants to take off. Has anyone else had this same problem? The RPM doesn't rev up, the car just jerks extra had when stopping at a red light.

Hello, mine does this as well. I think it could be a bad injector. Have you checked yours yet? Any news? Cheers

RedSmurf, if you are still rolling as you are coming to a stop (going say 5 mph), what you are feeling is the transmission shifting back to first gear. If my memory serves me correctly, it is not synchronized and this tends to lead to a rougher shift than the other gears (which are sync'ed). It is more pronounced if you do harder braking to a stop where if you can slow to say 10 mph and then ease up on the brake, the jerk will not be as bad, if you feel anything at all.

It's a well known issue on this transmission. Lots of threads on it here. It is the lurch as it downshifts into first

Some people said it got a bit better by resetting the transmission so it has to learn driving style again. Others said transmission fluid change helped. But many just ended up living with it
Search the forum for lots more details

Can we do the reset ourselves, or does it have to be done by the dealer?

The Lurch still affects a 2011 car?

If so, you could only DIY with a Mongoose/etc and IDS/SDD.

The x351 transmission through 2012 was a the 6 speed ZF used on many Jaguars at that time and then in 2013 was changed in the XJ to the new ZF 8 speed unit that is used throughout the Jaguar and Land Rover lines.

So there's nothing to solve this lurking forward? My bet is on the downshift to 1st gear

Seemed much worse in the beginning? 2003 Jaguar started using the 6 speed ZF.
Look at the "Lurch" for historical background.

Lurch

My 2005 S Type R had 2 of the several different versions of the lurch.
Get the latest software installed. At least get it checked because there were improvements made. No guarantee.
Learn to drive around it. This worked best for me. Pay attention to when it does the thing you hate or notice the most. Then brake harder/easier. As was suggested it's real bad when rolling slowly to a stop.
Service the unit. New fluid is always a plus and these are NOT easy transmissions to check and add fluid to. I really admire the guys that have done this on jack stands in the driveway!
Live with it and just learn to ignore when it happens.

As posted above the transmission is always in gear and downshifts as you slow down. So you are right it's the final downshift into 1st. that's the problem. The lurch does not cause any damage and is subjective depending on the person. For a expensive car it's unacceptable but as old as your car is I doubt you will get any coverage from the dealer?

But we don't have the miles on the car or any service done?
Has the fluid level been checked?
So this is a guess at best?
