2013 XJL - LED Blade?
Hello,
I picked up my new Lunar Grey XJL yesterday and I have just come to realize the J-blades do not illuminate as they do on the XF without the headlights on.
Does anyone know if there is a way to have the Blades illuminated always?
Thanks in advance!

Hey mate, welcome to the forum. I can't believe it that even in the 2013 model, Jaguar has not switched on the LED lights as a "permanenetly on" DRL feature.
You are not the only one to complain about this lack-of feature...most of us have been griping about this since the 2011 models. I can't speak for the 2013 models, but I do know that in the 2011 and 2012 models, you cannot permanently enable the LEDs lights even via the dealership.
There are some folks here on the forum who have done it via after-market places...here are some of the relevant threads:

Honestly, even though I have only had this car 2-3 weeks, it still really bothers me that the signature strips cannot be turned on permanently! I think this was an easy styling chance just missed.
I think it's better if they stay unlit. Why? Because now everyone and their brother has a car that copied what Audi started. Same with the exhaust tips incorporated into the rear bumper that Lexus started with the LS-460 in 2007. Now Audi, Cadillac, Hunday, Mercedes, they all copied it. So all these car manufacturers keep copying each other...
Jag tries to stay separated from the bunch when it comes to styling cues, I see that as a positive.

I was about to write the same
I will have to disagree with you guys on this one. First, DRL's were originally meant has a safety feature so that people would focus on your car because your lights were on. Since then they have become a styling cue and as you have stated Audi is the reference car for how to properly do DRL's. Like it or not you can tell an Audi a mile away just by the lights alone. To me DRL's are no different than eyeliner on a female. They set the whole front of the car off and say notice me. With as beautiful a car as the XJ is I believe Jaguar missed a chance to really put the icing on the cake with a unique signature DRLs. I would had preferred something like the Porsche Panamera Turbo where its part of the light module like cat eyes or something like the F-Type so when the low beams come on with the thin laser light around it.

I must say I agree with you Expat. Having just come out of a Panamera (lovely to look out of...not some lovely to look at), I believe although the LED lights are certainly the "new" styling trick, they can indeed reinforce the XJ's style identity. The J-Blade is a unique signature, well utilized on the XF, and I believe to be very attractive.
This design feature started long before Lexus stole it. I don't think Lexus has had an original idea, ever.
Who came up with this idea? I think it was Lexus. Everyone else copied it. I don't recall any cars prior to 2007 having incorporated exhaust tips in the rear bumpers.
Let's not be uncharitable to Lexus - Their original idea of really making the Germans sit up and take notice (unlike Acura's half-hearted attempt) benefits all of us even today. But, they also should be given credit for coming up with a $120K hybrid that isn't economical and doesn't perform well. That's pretty original.
Sorry if I've ruffled feathers here... it was not my intention to insult. I am a car buff and simply wanted the record set straight.
The earliest examples that come to mind are the '55 thru about '61 Corvettes, '55 thru '57 Thunderbirds (the '57 had the best exhaust style!), '56 Lincoln Premiere, '58 Eldorado Brougham, '57 Roadmaster. Other pre-07's than come to mind are the Bentley Continental, Ferrari (F40, 550, 430, etc), BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne, Lotus Elise, Ford GT. There may be plenty more or earlier examples, but those are the ones most memorable to me.
