Default 2014 XJ gummy interior buuttons

I have an extended warranty on my XJ with 18,000 miles and feel it should covering extremely sticky buttons used daily such as menu, navigation, etc. I was told it wasn’t covered and after researching on line I find that it is covered by some dealerships. It’s a nuisance. What should I do?

You can clean off the gummy layer in about an hour. If you search you'll see the instructions. I did it and it came out great. Buttons look way better. The only part I replaced was the screen sides. The rest I cleaned off.

I can not understand why the screen sides will not come clean, I just thought it was my car! How hard of a job was that to replace?

I currently need to do the screen sides and the center console piece that is turning purple.

It is a 30 second swap. It just pulls off, and the replacement pushes on. Be careful not to drop any of the clips down the back or they will rattle!

Screen sides come off with goo-gone. Did mine in about 30 min with a bit of elbow grease. Had to use a plastic bristle brush for the edges as i have fat thumbs.

Thanks that's good to know!
I have a 2014 and so far they are fine but you guys got me checking it all the time for stickiness.
Hope they don't need to be cleaned but think I will do it myself rather than fight with the dealer over replacement.

Best stuff to use is BESTINE. They sell it at AAron Bros. It is used to clean paintings and not damage the paint. FYI

I'm a little bit scared about this peeling with gogone... what appen to the sides of the buttons?
The fornt side will be peeled, but the sides? did they be soften and will glue each others in the future?
There is a way to umnount all buttons to a better cleaning?
If someone has the manual to unmount them please post it here and i will make a tutorial to clean them for all.

ciao!

I recently changed out the SatNav touchscreen on my ’11 XJ. While I had the surround and AC control panel off, I addressed the “gummy buttons” issue. All buttons suffered from this, as well as the sides adjacent to the touchscreen. I tried the various techniques/chemicals/products cited in this thread and numerous other methods described on the web. None worked, at least in the few minutes I tried each. What did work, and very successfully, was using my fingernail to merely scrape the goo off, followed by a slight bit of rubbing with Goo Gone on a microfiber towel (not really a necessary step). I also used a fine-pointed tweezers to remove the miscellaneous tiny goo ***** that lodged in cracks, etc. It took the better part of an hour to address all surfaces, but the result is terrific. The surfaces are gum free, look brand new, and have an excellent feel. In addition, the letters and symbols are whiter and brighter than before. Note that the letters and symbols are etched below the surface of the buttons, not painted on, so using my fingernail caused no damage. I see no reason why I couldn’t have done this with the surround and AC panel attached. It was just a bit easier while I had them off. Not only is this method essentially free, effective, and low risk, it will give you something to do while at stoplights or in traffic tie-ups.
