Default 2018 Jaguar XJL

Hi,
i have a 2018 jaguar xjl
it overheated and won't start. My car is cranking but won't start. It leaked all the antifriz and i'm not a mechanic but i know a little about cars.
Is there a kill switch on the engine?
Any suggestions?

Which engine is fitted to the vehicle?

How exactly did the engine overheat?

Both the AJ133 and AJ126 do not like to be overheated as the heads and or cylinder block can warp with head gasket failure the result.

Robshah, like NBCat said, these cars do not like to overheat. I am assuming that you are in the Los Angeles area based on what you wrote for your location (granted, having something a bit more clear does help). With that being said, if you have a gas/petrol engine, I think the next step you have is to have the engine looked at professionally (unless you have a friend that is familiar with cars). From what you describe happening to the car, a compression check is next on the list. You want all the cylinders tested and you given the results of each cylinder. What you are lookign for is all cylinders to be around 185 psi in pressure, but the more important thing is that they are all within 10% of each other. Normally what you will see is say most of the cylinders up at some pressure (lets say 180 psi), but you are going to have 1 or 2 that are down around say 40 psi. This would indicate that you have a major failure on your hands and at a minimum, a top end rebuild is going to be needed for the engine. I highly doubt that you would see this based on your case, but if you see all the cylinders down around say 80 psi, then you need a complete engine rebuild as the rings are shot or you have catastrophic engine damage.

If you do need a top end rebuild, stand by for a healthy repair bill. Something in the $10K range would not surprise me.

As for the "kill switch" preventing the engine from starting, unless the car suffered a sudden stop (something approaching that needed to activate the air bags, so pretty decent), there is no mechanical switch. The computer that controls the engine does have the ability to turn off the fuel injectors if it detected a collision. Then you need a fairly high end computer to connect to the car to reset this.

From what you describe, it is not looking good. Just being honest here. Could you be lucky and have a simple problem on your hands. Possible. But, based on what has happened to other members, I am just being realistic.

Unfortunately, as Thermo points out, there is not much you can do with an overheated AJ126 except find a replacement engine assembly. I have not found anyone who can successfully get a previously overheated AJ133 or AJ126 to properly seal and hold compression.

From what I've seen, to replace an engine is around 15,000$US.

2018 came with a 5 yr / 60,000 mile warranty so it might still be under warranty.
