Default The collecting has begun - compatible X351 model years

Well, much to my wife's dismay, my habit of buying great auction deals has reared it's head again. My x400 auction steal has worked out so well and was frustratingly (at times) fun to get back on the road that I caught the bug again. I was able to snag a 75k miles 2011 XJ XJL Supercharged V8 from the auction for a mere $900. I am a sucker for a project, so long as it isn't too lopsided. This one has some cosmetic exterior issues, but none that can't be overcome for sure. Grill has a hole in it, clear coat faded on hood and roof, and it needs a rear bumper cover. It also has the worst (IMO) factory rims that I'd like to change out for other factory styling. It has the skinny 5 point star rims. My least favorite. At least I am pretty sure they are OEM as it has the standard faded Jag center cap.

In any event, as I was looking at the prices for the rear bumper cover, adding in freight, I was thinking dang I can just pick up a wrecked/totaled parts XJ for less than I can just buy the bumper cover for most likely and have all sorts of extras available as well.

That being said, where is a good source of info for compatible years and models? From my eye, seems that basically all of the 2011-2013 (maybe 2014?) models at least have the same rear bumper cover and grill. Should I be specifically looking for an L for this purpose or are most parts compatible between the standard and long wheel base?

I already have about 10 things to many to do, but I need variety in my projects so now that I am finished with the x400 and daily drive it, I need something even more fun and challenging so I am looking forward to it. I am still waiting on it to get to my house, but it will have to sit for at least a few weeks as I promised my wife I will finish building the pantry.

2010-2012 will be compatible. L parts are not comptaible in the rear with non L, jpart parts finder on the forums will be helpful for you. or get to know your dealer

Most 5.0L powertrain components are like for like compatible.

I appreciate the clarification. For the L and non-L, I wasn't sure if it was the rear that was different or the middle (basically doors and some internal components). This helps. Narrows my scope, but helps! The dealer around here, well...let's just say I am not good enough to be graced with any semblance of professionalism by them (in other words, they are huge d*%ks. Like the most pretentious guys I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with at a dealer). However, I have started to develop some better relationships with other resources around and on the web, so all good there. Thanks again for the info!
