Default Engine Kaput

Hey Jag lovesr sorry for the absence but this MBA is killing me. So I am driving home from the dealership after getting my front bumper sensor painted(come to find out it was the long German tag causing the sensor issue) doing about 130mph and the car just shuts off(was almost at my house). So I pull over and engine oil starts just pouring out onto the ground(a big no no in Germany) and smoke starts billowing out of the engine compartment and from one of the exhaust pipes. Well my neighbor who was following me(although not closely) pulls over and calls the fire department because of course we think the car is going to explode at any moment.

Well they get there and the smoke has stopped but the car refuses to restart and now the coolant low light is on. I pop the hood and see there is very little coolant in the reservoir. So we drive back to the house I get water and go back to pour it in the car but it just comes out under the car as well. After the fire department pours sand on the oil(because if they don't and specialist come its 2000 euro) I call ADAC to come tow my car back to the dealer. After a week of worrying that I would be on the hook for a new engine it seems as if the engine failed and is covered under warranty and I am getting a brand new engine.

If you ask me and my uneducated guess I would say a seal failed causing coolant to leak into the engine block which caused the engine to super heat and fast causing the rest of the issues. Which because of the issue something broke off in the engine and cracked the oil pan because there was a big hole in it which is where all the oil and coolant leaked from. They feel the same way because when they tried to put coolant in it just leaked out from the hole in the oil pan.

The dealer was kind enough to give me a diesel volvo V60 to drive as a rental for 50 euro a day and after talking to the people I bought the car from and Jaguar UK itself they are going to pay for the rental car until my car is fixed. I don't think we will know for sure what happened to the engine until Jaguar UK looks at it as it is being shipped back to them to inspect and make sure there is no recall issue that needs to happen.

On another note I will be heading to the Frankfurt Car Show tomorrow on Press Day(gotta have connections.lol) and will take pics of the CX-16 and I believe Jaguar has another surprise they are suppose to be unveiling as well. It will be a great birthday present as I turn 41 tomorrow. I even have VIP Jaguar tickets for Sunday(Lets you into the Jaguar lounge for drinks) that I got from the place I got my car. So say what you want but for me Jaguar is class act. They just need to get the reliability up and listen to their customers a little more especially their XJ owners seeing we are driving their flagship and represent them to the fullest. There are some software changes that could really increase current owners enjoyment of their cars.

And were there no hints of failure before it blew ?

Obviously you live in the one place where you can do 130 mph for some time, and really test a car, all though I did notice whilst I was on holiday there two weeks ago most of the autobahns seem to be limited to 130 kph (= just over 80 mph)

Not a hint. One minute I was rolling 130mph and the second I was coasting at 130mph. I wasn't even on the Autobahn when I was doing that speed. I was on a side road heading to my house. Yeah they have speed limits everywhere now. I just got flashed today doing 60kph in a 50kph. But they have close to zero cops on the highways so everyone speeds. I do 100mph just going to work everyday. I will probably go to jail if I ever come back to the states.lol

From the thread title I was expecting a tale of woe, but apart from the inconvenience it all turned out well.

Maybe you can get Jaguar to drop in the 510HP version--I think you could use it!

There have been a couple 5.0 issue that have blown out oil coolers and coolant orings. And at that speed(and rpm) things go quickly south
Sounds like it kicked out a rod hense the hole in the oil pan

Well I am glad the car just turned off and coasted and nothing else bad happened. I am glad when the engined ceased the transmission disconnected itself.
