Default Illumination Package 2012 XJL?

I was wondering if any of the techs on the board could comment on the possibility of adding the illumination package to a 2012 XJL Supercharged.

I know that in 2011, it was only available to SuperSport buyers, and I know that the prewire for the sill plates is already there, but since the 2012 has the whole package with vents as an option, I wonder if there is prewiring for that as well?

Thanks for any info anyone can provide!

It is possible to add, but the cars are not prewired for the vents. You can splice the wiring from the lighter socket illumination front and back (it is how the OEM circuits are spliced). Full sets of vents are available on eBay and from breakers occasionally for a few hundred pounds the lot, verses £120 each as new OEM parts. I replaced the entire vents on mine, which necessitates unscrewing the mounts from behind, but afterwards noticed that it may be possible to just pull them out and reuse the mounts with the illuminated vents which would save about 4 hours of effort. The rears are dead easy as the panel just pulls off, but the fronts will take you a full day as you need to completely disassembly the dash to route the wiring.

Thank you so much! How were you able to find the parts via eBay? My searches seam to not return anything...

Illuminated front sills are an easy DIY installation. I found a used front set on eBay. Keep checking, they come up occasionally. Fronts are identical for SWB and LWB; rear sills are not.

Search for X351 vents until you find one with a small pair of wires and connector shown in the photo, then check the seller's listings for the others to see if they have the set. It is rare to find them listed as the illuminated vents as most breakers just see them as vents. They are not always available, so just keep your eye out and eventually you'll find a set.

The WERS part no's are printed on them:
BW9M-19C893-AC
BW9M-19C696-AC
BW9M-014A24-AC
BW9M-014A25-AC
BW9M-19K617-AC
BW9M-19K6**-AC (my label was torn so I don't know those two characters, but two vents will be identical so I suspect they are '17')

Being a newbie to the Jaguar, I was wondering, if you have the illuminated sill plates on a 2012 xjl supercharged you should have the entire package? At least as long as the sill plates weren't added later. The vents should light up too? Is there anything else that is lighted in the package?

Yes if they came as a package.
You should have the 4 eye ball vents lighted, all 4 door sills and the trunk sill.
Don't forget the 2 eye ball vents for the back seat either.

I've only driven it twice so far. Both times in daylight so I haven't noticed the vents, but the sills were lit up. It has all five sill plates. I'm wondering because the dealer didn't mention the illumination package but when I saw the sills I thought it probably did. This was a corporate car for a resort town outside of Los Angeles. I suspect it was used to transport people to and from LA. So it was probably ordered with the kit. Who knows, maybe Katy Perry's butt has been on my seats.

Definitely looks cool at night. Not much to see in daylight.

I think I am going to add the leapers that project on the ground when you open the front doors. Don't know about doing all 4 doors but at least the front two doors.

Just about any new car has them now but I still like the look. The stock Mustang ones are pretty damn nice with the running horse and they are standard on that car!

You might want to get your build sheet from Jaguar? It will list all the options it came with.
My 2014 XJR only had the illumination package and the Carbon Fiber Package.

Being a corporate car I didn't get much with it. Just the leather pouch with the owner's manual. My last two came with the window sticker.

How do you go about getting the build sheet?

Well not to get on you but remember all this stuff has most likely been answered before on this forum.

Here is the VIN decoder;

Post back what you find. It's interesting to see all the variations.

I looked it up in the vin decoder as suggested. It seemed to be pretty accurate, but it had basically the same things the others I looked at had. Suede headliner, jaguar script illuminated sill plates, it still didn't say "illumination package". Guess I'm gonna have to find some place to go at night. They usually roll up the sidewalks when it gets dark around here. I haven't seen it all lit up yet. It listed 19 or 20" rims. Guess it doesn't know which it came with. It does have the airline trays with the walnut veneer. I don't know of any options they came with other than the illumination package. I'm guessing it's a standard supercharged model. No dvd player in back or anything, just a normal supercharged model.

A little off the subject but does anyone with the rear fold out trays actually use them?

I wonder because the options I am missing on my XJR seem to be all for the rear seat and really for limo service? I mean I got an XJR because of how it drives. The back seat was not my priority.

Here is my build sheet. Some of the options are listed at $0.00 so not sure if they are standard or not? I have no idea what the TT3 build option is? Lots of so called "minor" features which I guess they mean standard for that model?

2014 was the first year that the XJR was offered in the US and, in that year only, you could either get the Sport interior that you have or the comfort interior that was similar to the 2013 SuperSport and that interior in a LWB didn't have back seat features offered.

Well I got to drive it at night tonight. I wanted to get used to it during the day before tackling it at night. I do have the illumination package. The air outlets lit up just fine. It's really nice at night. I found the adaptive headlights and cornering lights to be great. The more I drive it, the better I like it.

Thanks XJsss I had been looking for the 2014 order guides but could only find the 2013 versions.

Still some odd statements in there? Probably just typo's but they list brakes as 19" in one spot. My car has the Carbon Fiber option and the CF engine cover but the cover is not listed on my build sheet and it is a stand alone option according to the order guide.

So not sure why my 2014 has it?
