Question Maintenance service costs?

Hi Guys, long time no speak! I have a 2014 Jaguar XJ-L AWD Portfolio with 80k on the odometer and the maintenance message has been coming up. Before I take it into Jaguar to get this done as I have been told that they are the only ones who can reset this light, I wanted to know what I should be expecting to pay and what do they do exactly during the standard maintenance procedure? Thanks in advance!

etaent, is Jaguar the only one that can reset the light. NO. Is it something that you can do just by pushing a few buttons on the dash. No. It requires you to either have an SDD computer (fairly expensive) or there are some readers on say E-bay (cost around $150 or so) that will reset it too.

As for what it will cost you, that is a very subjective thing. Every dealership seems to have their own "this is what is required for XXX mile maintenance". Odds are, they are going to get you for an oil change (seen figures as high as $250 for this), probably go after a coolant flush (another $150?), then a general inspection of the car ($125ish for an hour of labor). Then I am sure that they are going to say something to the effect of "serpentine belt needs replaced" and other small stuff. They may even try and say that you are close enough to 100K mile mark that it would be beneficial to do a plug change. So, you can get out of there for probably as low as $400, but it could hit say $1500, all depending on what they are saying is needed.

I wish you lived closer to me. I would tell you to come on over and we could do a lot of this for around $100. Changing the serpentine belt is pretty easy (atleast on my 5.0L it is). An oil change is really easy when you have the vacuum pump (don't even have to bend a knee). A brake inspection is free and a few minutes of time. Topping up fluids is a few dollars worst case.

Use the Foxwell NT510. It will reset the service message and a bunch of other things. It also puts the brakes in maintenance mode for pad replacement.

Regarding the Foxwell NT510 you mentioned, aside from resetting the service warnings, have you been pleased with it so far? I'm considering purchase, but based on limited online reviews I'm on the fence.

Thanks,
Matt

It is worth it just for the service reset capability. For me though, I also plan on doing my own brakes so it is crucial to have it. You can also get a lot more info from the car from it. It is definitely worth it! Easy to sell used as well once you are done with it.

LOL - Holy **** dude that thing is crapolla! Look at the reviews I think every one of them is a shill review. This is Chinese stolen tech of something. Is it really worth saving $50 over? You are driving a Jag get something decent!

Looking at the link that you posted, it does not appear to clear the service required message. It will reset the check engine light as long as the problem is not present.
