Need an Filter for a 2010 3lre XJ diesel and not sure what to get. Never done and oil change before. Problem is, the sites I put my details into are coming up with different part numbers for same makes. So can soneone help please?
The most common other one being the BOSCH 7155 but I am also getting the JDE 8751 recommended and others. So which is it? It's been the same for other brands too.
OEM filter are Purflux L442.
JDE 8751 are Jaguar part number for it. Bosh F0 2640 7155 will do as well or Man-Filter HU826X. Filter should come with new O-ring for filter cap.
Hint: Allways press the new filter on the base of filterhouse, not to the plastic cap. That way you protect any side stress added for small rubber valve on botton of the housing. Valve are there to release oil from filter to the sump when you open the cap. If damaged you lose about 1/3 of oil pressure. Nobody want that.
Use low ash (C1) engine oil only, preferable Gastrol Edge C1.
Oil change are very easy task with electric oil extractor conected to the suction tube. (in most of cases an short silicone tube needed to connact hoses together)
If i remember correctly an 32mm (or 34mm?) socket will fit to the oil filter cap.

What valve do you speak of? and where is it located?
On 3.0L Diesel engine. (not 100% sure though if the petrol V6/V8 have similar too, maybe some petrol owner can peek in to the housing when next time change filter?)
Bottom of oilfilter housing are an circular metal holder what have rubber cone valve on it. When filter are in place the cone are closing an draining hole on botton of housing. When filter cup are loosened by rotating upwards the valve opens and remaining oil excapes to the pan thru the drain instead all over the engine surface or mechanic hands.
-> Rubber cone have just tiny nipple holding it in the metal ring and can be relative easyly been knocked off when filter are rotated on with the cap. (adding side force) Therefore its better to push filter directly to the housing, pressing valve cone between filter and hole directly downwards, without forces from side.
(needles to say how important are to use correct oils, to prevent this rubber valve to go britlle, like these oil bath timing belts do)
Here are picture of filter housing bottom with arrow pointing the rubber valve. Circular metal holder well visible, cones nibble goes thru it about 2mm. Cone is pointing downwards to the draining hole what are not visible. Circular metal are acting as an spring opening the valve when filter are off.
If this valve is detached from its holder, the drain hole to the pan are left open and about 1/3 of the oilpressure are losed because extra bypass of the oil circulation. Not sure if this valve have been a reason for AJD-V6/DT17/DT20 diesel bearing / crack crankshaft issues? The failed engines are usually discarded without full examination of the engine after noted an total botton end descruction.
Hi guys.
One quick question for you. 3.0 diesel in Europe. Oil filter has a direction of mounting? Its the oil filter without plastic parts and 2 small O-rings. It has only the big case ring. So…. The oil filter without plastic neck and 2 O-rings. Its just a normal cardboard cylinder that pops in the plastic thing cap that screws in the engine. It has a direction/ sense on mounting? Or it's either way? One has writings…. Produced in… bla bla. . But they are the same.
"Paper cardridge" oil filter don´t have direction. -> Do you have correct filter: Only O-Ring is for cap. (no small O-rings at all)
This is exsample for correct one (OEM): https://www.mister-auto.co.uk/oil-fi...ux-038-l442-p/

Yeah…. That's the one. Only top and bottom colour is different….. Some darkish brown….
I asked because I saw on youtube some different ones for Xj facelift. With plastic pipe at one end and 2 smaller O-rings.
Thanks for the information .🙏👍
I swapped the oil filter yesterday and wasn't sure if it has a down and up.
