P2187 and 2189 System too lean at idle, banks 1 and 2
2016 XJ L Portfolio with DTC P2187 and P2189.
Thinking an intake smoke test, but also read maybe it is as simple as grody or bum MAF sensors. Does that sound right?
If that sounds right, I am thinking pull the MAF sensors and clean them up, and then try an intake smoke leak test. But I'm not used to prissy cars. Can I just clean off the sensors like I do with my old Volvo? Am I running the risk of angering the computers? Do I need special Fancy Car MAF cleaner?
Now, here's the real dumb question: where do I introduce the smoke? But, like, tell me with pictures or really pedantic explanation; I am horrid at remembering government names.
ETA: 2016 XJ 3.0L Eng L Portfolio, 172k miles

How many miles on the car? Cleaning the MAF sensor is considered normal maintenance and yes, use proper MAF cleaner so it does not leave deposits or harm the sensor. After doing this I would reset the adaptations in SDD or disconnect and reconnect the battery and allow it to relearn.
just under 175k miles. I don't have SDD, is that something one could download? I am somewhat intimidated to do a battery reset; this is the newest computeriest car I've ever driven and I don't want to mess things up. What functionally happens when you do that? WHat does it mean for the car to "relearn"? I read there were some codes for the radio or something else one must have.
SDD is a big project so spend some time reading here;
SDD Links
This quick search returned 375 threads. It all in there but SDD is hard to install and use plus many ways to install and use it.
At least your year of car still uses SDD because a couple of years after that (around 2018-2019) Jaguar went to Pathfinder. Which is even harder to get a working copy of!

And yes, intending to DIY. It sounds actually like we may have SDD, just have to find a computer to load it onto.

So, to update:
- I checked/cleaned the MAF sensors. They were fine.
- Did a smoke test on the intake. Found a crack in the intake hose where it connect to the manifold. The hose clamp was silly loose and the air boxes not bolted in, which I am guessing allowed for enough play that caused the crack. Bolted down the air boxes and tightened the clamp. Ordered a new hose (is it still called a hose? It is a rigid plastic pipe.) which will get here next week. The leak was SIGNIFICANTLY improved after tightening the clamp, but still present.
- put the smoke directly to the manifold to see if there were any leaks further back, there were not.
- Short term trim levels * seem * to be better post clamp tightening, but to be perfectly honest this little exploration was my first foray into learning whatever the hell trim levels even are, so I have no real idea if I actually understand what I think I am interpreting. Long term trim levels do not seem much improved. Codes still present.

No, these are the only two codes. And I’m sure they have been replaced, but not sure. It’s not actually my car, but a good friend’s and maybe will be mine by summer 🤞

Could one theoretically use it to program keys?
eta: your link to links didn’t work. I’ll do my own search, but does anyone have any favorite threads to begin with?
Sorry about that! I have been having this problem with the forum software for some time now? I do a search and link it but the forum software kills the link for some reason.
But yes similar to the Volvo factory software and yes program keys and modules. Yes it uses a Jaguar Mongoose or cloned "Mangoose" cable. It was the dealer tool Jaguar used.
Here is the sticky thread to start off with and it's old as it was started in 2010 so things have changed over the years. Also many ways to install and run it so don't listen to anyone who claims it will only work they way they are doing it. That is just not true!
