I personally remove 2 sunroof cassettes since this post. The whole steel frame needs to be cut out with a wire as it is glued in with Polyurethane adhesive. The 2015-2016 car are no better than the earlier cars. All the corrosion protection car companies develop is turned to rubbish by backward companies like Webasto who make x351 sunroof assemblies The 2016 sunroof in the driest state in the driest continent had rust on it. Webasto lift your game you lazy mongrels.

 

Hello: Did the dealer replace your entire sun-roof? Or did he put new rails on the existing sunroof to replace the rusted ones? Or did the dealer clean off the rust first then affix the tape to prevent future rust. I have a similar problem with my XJL and hoping it won't involve a complete sunroof mechanism replacement.

I recently replaced my 2011 XJL roof with a salvage roof from a 2013 MY car. It's perfect now. Everything operates as it should. The worm gear for the front shade was no good. I ended up buying a whole new drive mechanism for the front shade. Total cost, $1,900 US.
