Default Window switches 2011XJL

hi all,
all 4 window switches will lower and close all windows in the car but the auto down (the intermittent first switch closure) will not work on any windows.

any ideas? I can’t think all 4 switches have failed in identical ways all at once. The only thing done recently was having the right side outside rear view mirror was replaced and it works perfectly.

best regards
don m

Since the drivers door has all four switches in it, perhaps the drivers door electronics module needs a reset or replacement?
Is it inop from all four doors or only from the drivers switches? If you haven't try it from the individual doors.

Donm, have you recently lost power to the car (ie, ran the battery flat or changed the battery). If so, you simply need to reset the windows. If you need the procedure on how to do it, let me know. Fairly easy to do. Takes about 2-3 minutes to reset all 4 windows.

Thermo, thanks for the reply! As a matter of fact, just had new battery installed before this was noticed. Would you mind outlining the reset procedure?

best regards, Don m

It's in the owners manual, JimC64 has it in a sticky here. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ownload-66380/

It's on page 158, but it says to close the window. Release the switch and then then lift to the close position again and hold for two seconds. Open the window fully, release the switch. Put it to open and hold for two seconds. Then try the one touch function.

Repeat for all four windows.

That's from my 2012 XJL manual.

Looks like rhomanski beat me to it. Granted, a slight difference that I see from the service manual is that it talks about moving the window and then continuing to hold the switch in the desired position vice letting go and then doing the switch a second time for the 2 seconds. When I reset mine, I simply held the button for the additional 2 seconds (may want to go a little on the long side time wise and you should also hear a faint click from a relay when it is set).

It may also be advisable to start the engine (says so in the service manual). Granted, as long as you can move the windows, all should be good.

These are some of the things that make me hesitate in my xjr 300 replacement. Training windows? Why can't it remember? Oh, yeah...Three fuel pumps? Don't see a future problem here!

Training windows has been done for decades and is used on hundreds of cars to prevent you from getting stuck or pinched in the power windows.

It's a simple thing and common.
