Hello Guys, it's been a while since I posted. Last few months picked up a 05 XJR, 05 E55 AMG, 70 E TYPE FHC.......And today a 05 Jaguar Super V8. 147k MILES (238,000KMS) But with an extensive service history.
It is showing code 0171 and 0174. Something to do with running lean. It's super smooth idle. But will go into Limp mode.
Old owner had 02 sensors replaced. Then gave up! Any ideas what it maybe?
Here are some photos!
It's a project. I only paid $3000 from a friend! An absolute bargain!
Yeah, what Xalty said. You can get cheap smoke testers off ebay. Cover the filter in plastic wrap and re-close the filter box. Remove the MAF sensor and use the larger cone supplied with smoke tester to insert smoke into the hole left by removing the MAF sensor.
Beautiful car, congrats on the purchase. I have a silver on black 05 SV8 and while it took awhile to dial everything in, they are a lot of fun when restored to full health.
Yes educate yourself as that engine has a rubber coolant hose under the SC which will fail and is a tough repair. Check that P/B booster vacuum line as xalty suggested above. It's another pretty much guaranteed failure point.
Good cars and look around the forum as just about all the problems have been solved.
I hate to ask but how is the air suspension? Probably the most expensive problem area.
I see the head lights are cloudy and again that is dead common and not too bad to polish the head lights out.

Thanks for the help guys. I will start to take a look.
The air suspension is 'OK' I just got the car it leans slightly on one side.
It's a project. I didnt need it but didnt it leave it sitting there as so cheap. It has over 16k of service history in last 8 years by previous owner. So its been cared for.
Plan is to bring it back to its former glory. Runs very good, apart from codes, and shifts well. Body is 7/10. No rust obviously just few scratches.
The best way to buy parts is to be educated and find exactly what part number you need first and then search for that. Sometimes that's the biggest battle because Jaguar is very good about keeping parts in production as compared to the big guys like Ford or GM but they make so many running changes. Be sure and use the last 6 digits of your VIN to verify your part numbers.
Are you familiar with the JTIS and JEPC? JTIS- Jaguar Technical Information System - A big fancy word for the shop manual. JEPC - Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog - A big fancy word for the parts manual. You will be MILES ahead if you take the time to install and get these working. The sad part is right now with the ending of flash from Adobe we have a big problem getting JEPC to work. We have a massive thread on it and there are ways around it. You can search for JTIS and JEPC to find the free downloads.
I currently use a Virtual Win7 machine on my Win10 desk top machine to run JEPC. The JTIS has no problems running on most operating systems.
Sometimes a used part from EBay is the cheapest source but a lot of wear parts like hoses and sensors I recommend to only buy new. There are a number of on-line Jaguar dealers selling parts so you have some choices.
Just a bit of advice on the air suspension? I could not really work on it without the SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnosis). This is the factory diagnostic software Jaguar uses at the dealership. This is also around for free but takes a good bit of effort to install and use correctly. It also is fairly dangerous in that without knowing what your doing much damage can be done to your car! So tread gently if you do get a working SDD up and going.

Or you can just call SNG Barratt and tell them what you need. They have helped me locate some very obscure parts and they vet their suppliers. Often they will offer the OEM part and an aftermarket alternative one after the other. I have found their aftermarket sources to be quite satisfactory.
Yes I like and have used SNG too.
Another place with a pretty deep catalog of Jaguar parts is Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts. Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts
What I like about these guys is even if they don't carry the part you got a chance of finding the right part number with their parts listing. Instead of getting a purchase price they say we don't carry this part as it's not a classic part no longer carried by Jaguar/Land Rover.
From what I understand is they are sorta connected to JLR and they buy up all the old dealer stock of parts when JLR obsoletes stuff.
