It's not too difficult. Take out the back seat and you will be able to access the pump.

Would the pump only referenced in Amazon work for all 2004-2009 x350/x358 as the part numbers seem to have changed. I have a 2008.

gmcgann

I think I have a problem with one (right hand side) of the fuel pumps on my XJR
How are the E39 BMW pumps that you used working for you?
Any problems?
Thanks

I did a physical matchup using EBay photos. Works fine. All pumps are controlled via fuel regulator to supply exact pressure. The pump I bought is Chinese, totally silent.

Hi romroc,

Thank you for the report on your successful fuel pump replacement!

Just for clarity, the fuel pump control is fairly sophisticated. Here are the snips from the Engine Management System manual for the N/A and S/C engines:

Cheers,

Don

Don

Thanks for that info.
I've done a bit of digging on the fuel pump spec for the early X350 xjr thanks to information posted by others on the forum. The original fuel pump part of the two xjrs fuel pump modules is a Pierburg 7.28177.01.

This is no longer available and after correspondence with an engineer at Pierburg it appears it was a special only supplied to Ford for the X350 xjr. The engineer also advised that the flow/pressure spec for this pump was 170 l/h against 3.8 bar. The X350 technical guide gives the following info on pressure and flow for the NA and SC engines;

So the xjr has 2 No Pierburg 7.28177.01 pumps individually rated at 170 l/h against 3.8 bar to provide a combined flow/pressure of 180 l/h at 4.8 bar.

There are two Pierburg pumps available that are identical in physical size and connections to the original. These are; (with their performance specs and price)7.22013.61.0140 l/h5 bar $2607.22013.02.0130 l/h 3.5 bar $120
I am pretty sure the ones that gmcgann fitted from following his Amazon link are the 7.22013.02.0, So I was interested to find out if they're performing OK .

The spec of the first one seems closer to the original xjr part due to the higher flow/pressure capabilities, but is a good bit more expensive.
If the lower spec cheaper units have been used successfully then this would be the obvious choice for my and other future replacements

The reason I'm looking at this is of course is because the replacements parts available from Jaguar/SNG Barrat are the whole pump module only and cost around 750 sterling EACH SIDE!!

Anybody else (STR owners as well) got any experience of suitable replacement and affordable pumps?

The spec details of the two Pierburg pumps available that are identical in physical size and connections to the original in my previous post didn't appear as I typed them so here they are again;

7.22013.61.0 140 l/h 5 bar $260
7.22013.02.0 130 l/h 3.5 bar $120

I'm quite sure what I used were to lower pressure pumps because of the price I paid. However, they are not working. I may have other issues so I'm hesitant to blame just the pumps, but it all started the day the car died and new pumps had it running again. New symptoms - hard starting, sometimes better if I let the pumps run, then cycle the key again before trying to start it. Second, 4 or 5 seconds of WOT and it starts misfiring badly.

Don, where is the REM (rear electronic module located)? I thought that the relay directly controlled the fp.

The REM is in the trunk/boot on the right side, behind the carpeted trim panel, near the Electronic Park Brake module (and the Fuel Pump 2 module on S/C cars). Control module locations are shown on pdf page 28 of the Electrical Guide, which you can download here:

Jaguar X350 Electrical Guide 2004

The fuel system is "returnless," meaning there is no return pipe from the fuel rail back to the fuel tank, so fuel pressure must be managed dynamically. The information I posted earlier from the Engine Management Systems manual explains how fuel pump relay supplies the necessary voltage to the REM, but the Engine Control Module (ECM) works with the Rear Electronic Module (REM) to manage fuel pump operation via pulse-width modulation (PWM).

Cheers,

Don

Thank you Don! And here I thought I bought a simple economy car, only to find its a fighter jet sans wings and bombs. Starts, but takes a bit too long to do so, say two seconds.
