Default 2004 XJ8 coolant level sensor works backwards

Replaced the expansion tank due to leaking. Low coolant message still on. Did the bleed, etc. The old sensor is open when low, and shorted when full. The new sensor works just the opposite.

That's why the low coolant message still displays. Shorted the connector and confirmed the message goes away.

Any ideas? Tank # is C2Z13764 confirmed with Jag dealer.

IF the old sensor works, why don't you just swap it out into the new expansion tank?

If yo post the last 6 digits of your vin I can check you have the correct part

But assuming you have correct part installed is there any chance you have the float upside down as this would cause it to read backwards

If I put the old sensor in the new tank, it does the same thing. It's like the magnet in the float is upside down.

That comes up as the correct part number

I cant explain why it working backwards
The 2 pins are shorted when the coolant is low not high

If you cant install the float up the other way call Jag support (not the dealer) as they may have a bad batch, IE with NC sensors rather then NC sensors

The only other thing I can tell you is to reverse the signal using a horn relay (5 pin type) or a transistor

Cheers

I think you've hit the nail on the head, the float likely wasn't installed correctly. I would contact whomever you got the tank from and they should do an exchange.

Good Luck.

The numbers are on the jaguarusa website (contact us)

Your dealer probably does not have another in stock and the incorrect float may be a one off mistake but it more likely the batch is faulty.

Its work checking wit the dealer if they have another one and test it before you take it but I'd get on to Jaguar first.
Not sure what Jag US are like but here in OZ they world make sure you were sorted out pronto. Remember this is Jags interest to check the spares a lot more than a dealer

OK, tech where I bought the part confirmed their whole batch of tanks has the float installed upside down. He had to buy a good one from another dealer to send to me.

Thanks All!
