Default 2005 XJ8L service plus extras

I went to the dealer for an oil change and tire rotation. XJ8L has 45,000 miles.
I also had them install a new battery which was $247 w/labor.

Got a call a little later and the service advisor said "I have bad news for you".
They said that coolant should be changed ($247), brake fluid changed ($252), fuel injection service ($212) and 4 wheel alignment ($230). Also, they said the tech noticed an air leak so they would like to install a right rear shock ($1583 w/labor).

How do you notice an air leak? Do you hear "shhhhhhh" out of the shock; is there a "clean spot" where it leaks? Or do they know this using software?

Does this look right to you guys? Thanks.

Can you say mooo? Cause you are getting milked like a cow.
Find a good indie Jag mechanic who can look up the recommended service intervals. Some of the stuff they want to do is okay but I get the feeling they are loading up the work order and the service writers commission. IMO

I second that. I talked to my mechanic yesterday and a guy came into his shop with a 98 E class with 150K. He took it to a dealership for a clunk in the rearend and they came back with a service bill estimate of over $6K!!! You can hear some leaks. It's all about pressure and the size of the leak. To small or large of a leak and it really can't be heard.

thanks for the replies; I'm not getting any air suspension errors, but I'll search and see if I can get some info on the Arnott shocks.

I should also mention that this is the right rear shock. Are there differences between the front and rear shocks?

Anyone know of a good independent Jag tech in the Jupiter-West Palm Beach area? Thanks.

2005,

You may not even have an air suspension problem worth worrying about. My 2005 settles 3/4" overnite and comes up to ride height on first start up in the am. I has always been so. No other symptoms. For sure it has an air leak but IMO not significant enough to worry about. Do you notice any difference in rear height left to right in the am?
Start pinging around for a Jag shop down your way. I'm sure there are some. If you can't find one come on up to Orlando. We have a couple of real aces. Put in a request for info in the Southern US Thread in this forum. There are a few very active members of this forum down that way who will be glad to help.
PM me if you want a conversation on the phone re service for your car. It could save you a few weeks of back and forth on this thread.

thanks for all the replies; this board, and it's members, are a great asset.
Tarheel: I don't seem to have an air suspension issue, so far car is always at the correct height and no error messages. I also appreciate your offer to discuss the service for the car (I may take you up on that offer). I will start pinging for a Jag shop.
