ASM Module
Hello everyone! This is Larry again lol. Current problem: trying to disconnect the 2 connectors that go into the ASM module on my 2004 XJ8 so the CAT System message will stop as I learned that the air shocks have been switched over to coilovers. I found that the ASM module is located under the rear seat?? The video I watched showed these 2 clips under each side of the seat but after just going out and trying to find them, I did not find them lol. Can anyone help me with this issue or is there another way to do this or to get the CAT message to stop? Thanks, Larry
Hi, Larry!
For the seat there are 4 clips, not two! those clips are near front edge of seat and under it. two are near propeller shaft tunnel and other two are about 15-18" away toward outside. You need to stick your hand under the edge of the seat and release clip by pulling the plastic lever you can't see, I do not remember in what direction toward outside or toward center. Granted, direction depends on which side you're working on.
I was trying to paste link to video, but it does not work:
Try to paste address into browser, just remove quotes:
"youtube.com/watch?v=CnhGEX4WOww"
So, I searched Youtube for "how to take out rear seat in 2004 Jaguar XJ8?" and this vide showed up.
This is exactly what I am talking about!
BTW, when you put things back together, take a piece of thread, I took a shoe lases, drill small hole black plastic lever and tied shoe lase to it. That way I can easily remove seat next time.
I hope you did read on how to disable CATS on this forum. people are sharing their knowledge.

Hey thanks alot!! Now after I take that bottom seat out, do I have to take the top back out also? My technical guide shows the module is behind that but idk. Thanks, Larry p.s. and a good tip putting the shoe laces on to make it easier if I ever need to do it again after this. And yeah, it says to disconnect the 2 connectors that plug into the module? Thanks again!
Yea, pulling back seat is tricky, I have not seen design like that in other cars:
After you pull button cushion out. On lower edge of back support cushion you will find two cloth straps, like a loading straps(?).
You have to pull those straps down with some appreciable force, while pulling top of the cushion forward.
Basically, pulling strap down, releases latch that holding cushion. You need to pull cushion out of position, otherwise, latch will reengaged when strap released.

Hi laredo007,
I do not believe that disconnecting the ASM on your 2004 will extinguish the CATS FAULT warning lamp, but if you want to try, see the post at the link below, which shows how to remove the rear seat back and how to wire in the Electronic Bypass Module (EBM) that comes with the Arnott Industries coil conversion kits. On the early X350s, I believe a bypass module is required to fool the other computers so they think the ECATS air suspension is still present and functional:

I used the module that came with my Arnott conversion and everything has worked great. My only issue was removing the seats to access the wiring. In order to get the straps to release the seat back, I had to slam my hand really hard onto the upper middle of where your back would be while tugging on the strap. It was very difficult to get it to release. For the bottom, I can see the release "knobs" through the gap at the bottom edge of the seat and the carpeting. I don't know it the gap is unique to my car or not. I do not believe Arnott sells the module individually but I recall a post where someone used resistors to do the same job as the module. However I was/am not able to do that type of electronics work.
