Default Automatic window buttons

Has anyone had experience with replacing the panel on driver's door handle that houses the window up/down switches? The "one-touch" operation of the two switches that control the passenger side windows (both front and rear) no longer work. If you press and hold the buttons the windows go up and down properly however I'd like one-touch feature to work properly. On top of that they rattle just loudly enough when I hit bumps that it drives me nuts. It's odd that it happened to buttons I rarely use, but the are clearly broker. There appears to be two screws on the underside of the handle however I'm not sure it's necessary to take them out. The entire switch assembly looks like it might just pop out with a screwdriver.

Have you tried resetting the windows?

Fully close the window, hold the switch in the close position for two seconds and then release the switch.

Wait for two seconds, do not open the window.

Again, select the same window to close, holding the switch for a further two seconds.

Check to confirm the operation by opening the window and then use one-touch operation to close the window.

Repeat for the remaining electrically operated windows.

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave it a try and it didn't fix the issue. I think the switches are broken.

the procedure i used was slightly different and maybe will work for you as well.

on each switch push it DOWN til the window is all the way down, hold the button there until you here a small click noise (think around 5 or 10 secs), then do the same thing with th esame window going UP instead of down this time.

then check to see if it works on tha twindow

do this from the main drivers switch for all 4 windows, should take just a few minutes total

hope this helps! -Erik

Erik - thanks for the suggestion; unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. The two buttons that are not working properly feel like they are loose. You can jiggle them, as opposed to the other ones that work properly. I may have to resort to having the dealer replace the part.

I've got a strange problem on my '04 XJ8 —*the front passenger window switch works fine — up and down.

However, on the driver side master control, the window goes down when pushing the switch down; however, when pulling up on the switch, the window just continues to go down. If the window is in the bottom down position, then pulling the switch up doesn't work. Window stays down. I have to reach across passenger seat to activate switch in order to raise the window.

So, I think the switch on driver side is bad. Found one used and want to replace (my service guy wants $450 to replace), found a used part for $55 and seems it should be easy?

Can anyone guide me in the process or how easy it is to pull the old and replace with the new?

My 2008 XJ8L front passenger window went down and refuses to come back up using either the main driver's side control nor the passenger side control. I tried the reset routines described earlier in the thread. Window still won't rise. Checked the battery ground strap and all appears fine. All other three windows are working fine.

Any suggestions on next steps??

Brant

1) If i have read the electric diagram correctly, you should check the fuse F46, lcated in the cabin fuse box. Each window has its own fuse.

2) If that's ok, I fear that the problem could be with the mechanism itself, and then you need to remove the door board to see what it looks like.

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi, to remove the window switch and ashtray you need to undo 2 small torx (T15 I think) headed screws from underneath.
Then the whole unit will lift up out of the armrest. Electrical connector has a small hole on the top where you
push one of the screws to release the lock. Not sure how the window switch comes out but should be simple.
