I'M running these tires mounted on 18" chrome rims. I like the way it rides and handles and would strongly recomment this tire.

I have 18son my 1998 XJR. I get lots of unsolicited compliments. I even caught someone kneeling down by my car writing down the tire model.

Get them.

JC what year is your XJ, I believe its a result of pre 06 brakes... i know its a factor on pre 06 s types for the mushy brake feel

how did you know/decide how to play with those specs so well?

past doing a good brake bleeding, and proper brake pad bedding, youde have to use a larger bore master cylinder to increase area to stroke. hense less pedal travel for the same pressure

JC im not quie sure but i saw this on edmunds.com before:
What's New for 2006 The Jaguar XJ receives a few refinements for 2006. Both V8 engines see modest increases in output, and the braking system has been revised for a better feel. New features include chrome-mesh grille inserts, laminated side-window glass for reduced road noise, satellite radio, Bluetooth wireless connectivity and an upgraded tire-pressure monitoring system. For 2006, there's also the Super V8 Portfolio, a new top-of-the-line, limited-edition trim level.
I know for a fact on 06 and up s types ( had lots of loaners) the brake pedal feels much quicker to respond and make my R brakes feel much more spongy...However when you really get in them the Rs do grab quite harder also in 06 R cars brakes were diff then 03-05 R systems

Im 6'1 though and have never had a problem with my height driving even my S. I honestly like to sit with the backrest up more then most people so i have good posture. I do feel for you with the dress shoe thing. When i wear dressy bally or prada shoes they often do the same thing [] i wear tons of cole haans though and never have a problem.
hope this helps! maybe brutal knows or can find out whats diff in 06?

Hi Joe V, my car is the same as yours and the brakes are solid. You may just need to bleed them out or perhaps someone has installed softer pads (organic or the like)the Jag won't respond well to those. BTW, I am 6' 0" and have the seat all the way back but not all the way down. My wife and I both had Avalons before I got the Jag and the seat in that still had about 3 inches of rearward travel left. We were looking at both cars in the driveway and the Jag appears to be much larger on the outside but Toyota used the available space inside and provided much more leg room for both the front and rear passengers.

They were installed on the new pre-owned '04 XJ8 i just picked up. I noticed some shimmy 50+mph and when breaking. Inspected pads and rotors and found a tad of rust on the rotors which may have caused the little squeaking I heard when braking. I find the tires to be a bit noisy and while I haven't run THIS XJ8 on anything else, the OEM tires (continental ?) seem to ride smoother and quieter. I'm considering changing out these tires - or I may rotate and balance and see if that changes anything... the local Jag dealer 'strongly' recommends changing the tires to Michelin or Conti not sure what to recommend!

[...] Then I had local Goodyear tire shop fill them with nitrogen ($30 for 5 tires) at 37psi front, 33psi rear. [...]
I've heard that this nitrogen thing really isn't worth the bucks. Sure you might minimize the effects of a blow out, but at the end of the day it's a bit of a scam, no?

Consumer Reports on Nitrogen; and again here; plus you've got to love what what the NY Times reported more recently. And there's more than you could ever care to learn or discuss about nitrogen in this guy's blog.

ORIGINAL: JC316JJMoved it to the alignment rack and I specified these settings:
FRONT
camber -0.6 to -0.4 deg: adjusted to -0.5 deg each L&R (was -0.6 L, -0.4 R) .
caster 7.4 to 7.8 deg: compromised: adjusted to 7.1 deg L, 7.2 deg R (was 6.6 L out of spec, 7.2R) ... it was not possible to loosen bolts safely R side to add more caster, so the L side was brought up just under the R side: this is a USA car, drive on the right, so R caster should always be slightly more than L caster to prevent drifting to the right .
toe in 0.00 to 0.01 deg each side: adjusted to 0.00 deg L, 0.01 deg R (was -0.03 L, -0.08 R: yes it was toe-OUT) .
REAR
camber -1.2 to -1.0 deg: left alone at -1.2 deg L, -1.1 deg R .
toe-in 0.00 deg each side: adjusted exactly to that (was 0.07 L, 0.00 R) .
Joe, are these specs from the Jag service shop manual? I'm having a bit of vibration and am going to re-balance my tires (those Goodrich's) and likely re-align everything and was thinking of bringing your specs in for comparison on what the "tire" store has?

thanks!

Thanks for the advice. Went ahead and bought a set of the BFG.

Nice tires. Quiet, and a bit firmer ride over the stock Conti's.

Hard to beat the value of these tires too @ $80 each.

From Tire Rack? I bought a set, too.....my third. I have them on my XJR and also had them on my Mustang GT, and love 'em. I bought this set becuase of the bargian price....I won't need them for a few months.

The first ones I bought a few years ago were more like $170 each !

Cheers
DD
