Can a Throttle Position Sensor" be rebuilt? And what would it take to rebuild one?
I have to change my throttle body because of the throttle position sensor. I am a pretty handy guy, I build and repair helicopters for a living. So I was wondering if anyone knows what it would take to rebuild a TPS sensor?
I have also read that for some people cleaning the throttle body has fixed the problem of sending the car in to "limp mode" so I am going to give that a try first.
BTW I hate my car and I want to bash it with a baseball bat, then i would like to see it get hit with a wrecking ball(preferably with my ex in the car), then blown up with C4(I wouldn't mind if my ex was still in the car).
No but seriously if i could figure out how to fix these sensors I would help out everybody on this forum cause I know its a huge pain in the @ss!
Thanx guys.

How do you know that you have a problem with the TB? Could it be one of the TB plug problem? Do you have any codes? If you are set on the TB position sensor see if this link will help you get information on the TB http://www.jaytanindustriesinc.com

I have never heard of anyone trying to fix a sensor. They are sealed and not DIY serviceable. The Jag TPS is a non-contact type and the part that is bad is likley the hall effect coil buried inside. I would send the throttle body for rebuild at ATE or BBA Reman. They will rebuild and test it for about $500. Way cheaper than the dealer. The parts you need are not available on the DIY market as far as I know. These units have to be synched with equipment, that is probably why you cannot buy the parts. *I will say that I am speculating about the reasoning based on experience, no one will tell you these things at the dealer or they just don't know.

How many miles you got on your VDP? and like the other member said they are sealed and you can't fix them, although we do respect that you fix helicopters but I used to sell airplanes and helicopters and I think cars and helicopters are different in many ways.

My jag has 68,000k. I just cleaned the throttle body cause i heard that someone else did it and it fixed the problem, but by looking at how it works i have a feeling that its not going to do anything.
As far as cars and aircraft being different I completely understand that but i do think i have the technical ability to rebuild the tps if I had some guidance.
I HATE having to buy the whole assy for the tps!

TPS Replacement
This part is replaceable. I found an exact match at autopartswarehouse.com for $175. I'm planning to repalce mine this weekend or next. It's held in place with 2 phillips screws.

the accelerator is a rheostat that tells the ECM its position. i.e. midway etc.
The throttle plate is driven by a motor that gets it instructions from the ECM and the motor always knows where it is.
If you need a TPS? are they confusing it with the accelerator or if you need a TB it has no TPS.

TPS for XJ8 2004
Old thread, I know...but I am having a buzzing, whining noise from my Throttle Position Sensor. Jag will tell you the TB and the TPS have to be replaced as a unit. Not necessarily so...
I have not yet tried this (but will shortly) , the Denso number is
Throttle Position Sensor LNE1560BA Denso 198500 3300
Hope the Denso number helps. Appears same part is used on X308, S Types and X Types. $130 Jag OEM. Less than $50 for third party.
Good luck.

Hi Randy,
I believe others have confirmed that that Denso part number works for the X-Type, S-Type and X350, and aftermarket parts are available on eBay for less than $25.00. But I don't know if anyone has actually tried one of those and had success. Search the forum for that part number to see if you find a report from anyone.
To my knowledge, no one has found a source for the actual Denso product. The Denso online parts finder returns no results for that number.
That Jaguar part number appears to be for the entire supercharged TB/TPS assembly and the list price is $2,300.00, with Jaguar Merriam's discounted price at $1,861.28....
Cheers,
Don

Jim,
Thank you for posting those photos of the interior of the TPS. They confirm that it is not a Hall Effect Sensor but a conventional potentiometer with circular traces that are probably made of conductive plastic, with metal wipers. To your eye do the wipers appear to be gold plated?.
Very helpful! Thanks!
Cheers,
Don

Yes Don - and the problem was a crack in one of the tracks. I read somewhere that Jaguar weren't happy with the output from a single track (no redundancy or check function), so they use two tracks slightly offset from each other in outputs. That way you can't cheat the system by injecting a false voltage (to get it going).
