Default Convert Sport to Normal suspension

Now I'm getting old and decrepit, I find the Sport suspension a bit hard and uncomfortable, expecially with our wrecked roads here in the UK. So I thought I might convert to normal or "comfort" suspension instead of looking for another car with all its unknown faults.

Has anybody ever replaced all the air springs from Sport to Normal or vice-versa ? Does the ASM have to be reprogrammed, for instance ?

If I proceed, I am looking to get used units off a low mileage wrecked car, not new ones, if I can avoid it.

I have one comfort unit on the passenger side now, and one leaky sport on the driver's side. When I replace the driver's side, it will be with comfort. I do notice a bit of an improvement in ride quality. When I change the driver's side, I'll report my impressions. I plan to do that in July.

You definitely will find a difference. A friend of mine just changed his.

Would the shipping costs be too prohibitive for you to purchase the Arnotts Air shocks and have them shipped over to you? They are so reasonably priced I would think it worth looking into. In addition, from my experience, they do seem to be far superior in reliability to the Jaguar originals.

I greatly admire what Arnott Industries has done, but as far as I can make out, you lose the CATS because the Arnott units don't have the variable dampers (shocks). This could be a legal issue, as it would be a modification to the car, and it could fail our roadworthiness test, the so-called MOT Test, but I am not fully certain about this, it needs checking out. I'm aware a number of Land Rover owners have converted to steel springs from air, which is similar and have had no problems. What Arnott do is fix the CATS connection so no failure warning is generated. So as I understand it, you still plug the wiring connection onto the top of the air spring unit, but it no longer does anything.

I have to say, I'd be a lot happier if the Arnott units included variable dampers like the originals, then I'd really be considering them.

If I'm not mistaking Arnott also offer rebuilt units that retain the CATS function. Perhaps 'arnottdoug'(?) from Arnott will reply.

I have XJR 2007..
Im also want to join with this question about airsprings to "Arrnottdoug"!
Im in thoughts what to prefer in my case - repaired OEM with CATS or new air Arrnott?
And the second question (if new Arnott) is whats better "sport or comfort"?

What your opinions or experience?

This is true, but they are on an exchange basis and USA only at the moment. If only there was a UK agent !! Here's a UK spares supplier price for a new one; cheap they ain't !!

Default In case this applies...

Fraser,

I just changed my rf from oem to arnott's $399. So now I have a lf oem and an arnott's rh front airstrut assembly.

The ride is perfect. Stance is spot on as you say. Cats whatever makes no difference to me. I haven't raced the car so I cannot comment on loss of control issues...

Just for whatever its worth. 2005 Vdp comfort, btw. I live in the mountains and rough roads, spirited cornering are common. No issues.

Gary
