Angry Disk Installed is not a Map CD ???

Hi all,

I've done a google search and also tried to find information here for a solution. Unfortunately, the best suggestion I can find for the error message:

Disk Installed is not a Map CD

is to replace the GPS disk in the boot. While not having a GPS is really not an issue, I was hoping to know a better solution to getting the reader to read the disk I have (actually have tried two) without buying a replacement.

Does anyone know a workaround or is the reader kaput?

Thank you!

Boxx

I've gotten that message a few times. Usually it works ok the next time I start the car. I never put the OEM disc in the drive. I make a copy and use that. If it gives me that message more than once or twice I just burn a new disc.

you might consider using a lens-cleaning CD.

I recently purchased a 2005 Super V8. I was getting the same message on my nav screen. I popped out the DVD map disc and cleaned it. It now works like a champ! My first modification will be to upgrade the map disk to a more current edition.

Cheers!

Jon

I'll try the low cost ideas of cleaning first...have tried two disks with the same error.

Have you used a lens cleaning disc to clean the drive?

I had the same problem and then purchased a DVD/CD cleaner disc. I was very skeptical but so far so good. The disc I purchased has 5 little brushes on it, it had instructions to play it and follow the instructions but since our systems do not work like that I just inserted it and let it run for a couple of minutes. It has been two days now and the system has not shown any symptoms, such as slow loading or the not a map DVD message, it has also improved the performance (speed) of the system.

So I've ordered in a CD/DVD cleaning disk gizmo...I'll report my results when the shipment arrives. It was 6 bucks...fingers are crossed this will remedy the situation

I've received the cleaning kit. I followed the instructions and still receive the same error. At this point I'm going to have to assume that the Nav CD reader is kaput

Wrong XJ, that's for an X308 with the Alpine Nav, X350's have the Denso system.

Thanks for the correction, didn't notice that. I checked both of my disks and they do indicate DENSO...
