Default Driver’s side wiper

I’ve got an issue with the wiper missing out huge sections of the screen, the base can be moved quite considerably so I’m guessing the metal surrounding the spindle has worn badly. Is this a common issue?

No

Sounds like just the arm needs tightening on the spindle.

That’s great news, I didn’t realise they were adjustable, any idea where or how?

ah, I see what you mean now, no, the spindle moves, you can hold it with your hand and move it back and fore in an arc about an inch wide with the arm off

The bad news is that the car is built around the wiper mechanism, (or so it seems !!), so if a shop is doing the work, the labour charges will be high just in the dismantling needed to get to it, and then replace everything. The mechanism itself is also pretty expensive although there are no doubt used ones around.

Rebuilt, & used, is about all that's available here, other than from the Jaguar dealer.
The rebuilds are not inexpensive, have not seen any new aftermarket ones either.
With all the disassembly to access it, a used one could be a waste of time, if its found to be faulty

As feared it’s worn, pulled it apart today, managed to make a little spacer plate to fill the wear, filled it with plenty of LHM grease and reassembled, all working fine but it’s a temporary fix for now.

You can get the complete mechanism (used) including motor for not a lot of money
and run it on the bench before fitting to check for wear if you wish.

Fit it yourself but you need to be a contortionist.
