Default Frustrated beyond belief

Ok guys, a while back I tried to install the Jaguar BT module in the trunk. Didn’t work and I pulled it. Then all 4 door speakers went out. I just ordered a salvage amp because I thought that was the problem maybe I blew a channel and installed it. Much to my surprise and dismay it not only didn’t correct the door speaker issue my Jaguar screen is now in Japanese. UGH..

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Brian

got it out of Japanese. Now the door speakers are working, but you can barely hear the stereo. You can definitely hear the subwoofer. Any suggestions? Thanks.

If you have the Alpine speakers then there is a very good chance they have been dying one by one and you have only noticed when the last one has failed. Pop a door card off and check the speaker for continuity, the wires corrode where they are in the melted plastic. You will see what I mean when you take one off. With your multimeter set on continuity put the probes on the pins in the connector, if you get a beep then you have a different problem, no beep then one or both wires have a break in them. You can solder a link wire in but the wire is usually that dirty the solder wont stick. A couple of mine look like a blind man with the shakes did them, but they do work.

I checked the speakers out in the door. I took speakers out. Everything looks great no corrosion no nothing. Looks like a new speaker. I don’t know.

Did you check the voice coil continuity with a multimeter?
Should be 4-8 ohms depending on speaker type fitted.

My wife won't let me play (Pink Floyd) in the car.
She doesn't appreciate that I played the same tracks on my SII XJ6 back in the 70's. Oh, the history of the XJ...

Just a generic Youtube video of someone checking a speaker with a digital multimeter.
You don't need to spend big bucks on a test meter, just get a cheap and cheerful meter from a car parts store, electrical wholesaler or electronics hobby store.

Pretty sure that wiping an AA battery across the speaker contacts would cause some static noise.

i cannot say thank you enough. Bought a voltmeter and they are dead as a door nail. Wow. All 4 at the same time. But I think you had a point that they were going and I didn’t notice until they died.

now…what do I replace them with?

You can use the blue ones (Alpine) from X-Type, they're identical and should be easier to get your hands on. I have done the same.

Or if the circuit is broken on the (rather short) exposed part of the wire you could bridge it again.
I had all 4 speakers gone and only one of them could potentially be repaired this way, so I just bought a set of 4 from someone's X-Type.

I found an old set of blue ones on eBay. Here’s hoping they work. 🤞
