Headlight Retrofit Non Auto Leveling
Hey I've got a 2005 Super V8 with auto leveling headlights and a 2006 xjr parts car with non auto leveling. Can I swap them without codes or with some convincing from SDD? The 2005 has a broken rear mount on the headlight assembly that allows the whole thing to wobble. I'm also open to part swapping on them, but the pins are different.
I'm about to sell the parts car for parting out, and my 2005 has engine out, so I'm not wanting to just swap and test. I don't want to wake the car up with no guts lol
Thanks!

I have no idea why the auto-leveling feature would throw a suspension fault. The auto-leveling lights are actually redundant, since later cars did without, relying on the suspension to keep them level. I don't see any reason they would not interchange, but like someone above said, no personal experience.
One would guess that the light auto-leveling system is utilizing the suspension height sensors to determine front vs rear vehicle height

Using the sensors for lamp levelling wouldn't preclude swapping in a non-levelling unit, although I think maybe the connectors are different. I'm pretty sure that the non-self-levelling lamps shouldn't throw an air suspension code, though.
Thanks for the responses.
For those interested, I have both types of headlights and cars with me. The connectors are identical, they simply have different pins. The wiring for both cars (expecting auto leveling vs not expecting) have the same pin count at the terminal that connects to the headlight. The headlight has the different pin count, with blank slots on the non auto leveling.
From what I can find online, you can use SDD to tell the car that it has halogen headlights and that will delete it's expectation for auto leveling headlights and kill the suspension fault code (there is good data to say that it throws suspension fault B1471) without affecting headlight performance as it is ballast powered. Many thanks to @edobernig
I'm still questioning if I should keep the good condition auto leveler light or swap both, only one is broken. I expect to sell my parts car before I get the good Jag running and tested so I need to decide now.

I guess, all things being equal, I would probably try to keep everything the same, I prefer symmetry. Plus there are people out there who might want to preserve auto-levelling headlights, and may need a working unit. Furthermore, I think the auto-leveling circuit is integrated into ballast, and down the road you may need to troubleshoot a lighting issue, so you would like to be able to eliminate the ballast as possible culprit by swapping ballasts, left to right. That being said, auto-levelling/non-auto-levelling ballasts could be interchangeable.
I replaced ballast Lad5g valeo 12 pin on early x350 with selfleveling . New ballast did not support that system to work had orange airsuspension light on the dash. Switched to halogen over SDD and the light on dash was no more.
later Models have Valeo Lad5gL 4 pin
