High pitch windshield noise
Just bought a 2006 XJ8. When I get up to 60mph, I start to hear a high pitched vibration, similar to a whistle. Sounds like it may be a seal issue on the windshield. If I press on the top portion of the windshield, the sound stops. any ideas?
You probably nailed it.
You could try sealing from the glass to the body and over the trim mouldings all the way around, and including the little gaps at the ends near the doors using masking tape. Then go for a drive. If the noise is gone, you know for sure.
Then it is just a matter of taking it to a glass shop to get it resealed.

...pluck a feather from a feather duster. While you are going at a safe warp speed, have someone put the feather against the suspected areas on the windshield enclosure. Voila, you should find the leak.
There was a Jaguar TSB that addressed this issue (see attached).

But, it basically says:
1. "Clean area behind the flip seal in preparation for the glazing compound application."
2. "Apply 3M™ Auto Bedding and Glazing Compound 08509 under the flip seal to
prevent vibration of the seal at high speed."
The flip seal is the rubber seal around the windshield, and it vibrates at high speed. The sealant holds it down.
If you are a dealership mechanic doing this on warranty, you are allowed a whole 12 minutes to do the job
