Default How to remove scuff plate trim

It seems that I need to remove the left side front (driver’s) scuff plate trim panel at the base of the door opening in order to remove the cowl side trim panel (to the left of the foot area). The instructions for this are a little vague and I do not want to break either of the trim panels. It appears that you lift the back of the scuff plate and slide it toward the rear of the car. Can anyone provide help on this?

(This relates to accessing the wiring harnesses in my effort to troubleshoot the driver’s window problem on our 2004 VDP as described in a previous post.)

Thanks.

The panels pull straight up and take some force to remove. I used a wide blade lever between the snap joints; the pictures below should help you.

I followed your procedure and it worked. The picture was very helpful. It was surprising how much force it took. The cowl came off fairly easy after that. Now if I can only find the connector for the wires that go through the door. These cars must have miles of wires.

Thanks for your help.

Default Resolution

I did want to communicate that I was able to remove the cowl side trim panel and gain access to the A-Post harnesses (not an easy process by the way) and resolve my lack of power to the window module. Please reference Driver’s Window Problem post for more information.

Thanks,
