Default More Bluetooth use/upgrade/compatability questions

So I'm still getting used to the 04 XJR. I have the voice commands set up. When I press the "phone" button to the left of the touchscreen I get the "Handset In Use" screen on the touchscreen. Under the center console lid is the cradle for the phone minus the phone). I don't know where it's at as it didn't come with. At any rate, I don't want to use the old phone and want to use my current phone. How do I do about Utilizing the current hardware for my current phone (Motorola RAZR MAXX) or upgrade the current hardware to use my current phone? Seems like a pretty straight forward question, but I'm not able to find a pretty straight forward answer anywhere. I have to be searching wrong somehow as I know it has to have been done already and I'm just not finding it. Help! Thanks!!!!

Thanks. I did tho... It's gone straight to the in use screen whether it's 1 second, 5, 10, et. Discon the battery in diff increments from 5 mins to a couple hours, to several hours, to overnight. I can't seem to get to another screen other than "handset in use"... I'm past frustrated...

Oh wow! I can imagine you are frustrated then! My apologies as I definitely don't have the solution there; I'm guessing it has something to do directly with the pre-installed phone feature?..

I am guessing so as well. The SDD won't allow me to do anything with it either...

Jason,

If your car came with a fixed phone, hands free or not, you need to replace the telephone module in the trunk to a Bluetooth enabled one and add a Bluetooth antenna. You need hardware, it's not just SDD programming I'm afraid!

Oeps...I see you want to add your own phone direct to the wiring. Don't believe that's going to work either.

The "Handset in use" is a user friendly version of "PSE module not ready". Do you get this message when you have a phone connected in the cradle?

The bluetooth setup is unobtanium at reasonable prices. Depending on your PSE version:
-- above AC it should work
-- bellow AC does not work
-- AC allegedly hit and miss

AFAIK there is no way to get the PSE version short of removing the module in the trunk and looking at the label. Anyhow even if your PSE version is compatible you would need a BTUM module, which used to be in the $200 range, but for some reason Jag stopped making these.

Hello veffremov,
Apologies for my delay. I've been preoccupied by other issues of my doing that I had to remedy and I'm almost done with those where I can get back to the mobile phone issue. To answer your question, I've only had this Jag for a few weeks and the original phone wasn't included. I was hoping there'd be an easy way to use the existing system, but wasn't banking on it. I like the voice controls, but still need to learn them so i can use them more.

Guus,
I don't necessarily want to connect my phone to the wiring. I just want to be able to use my mobile phone in the XJR.

Is there any way, that you're aware of, that I can get another hands free phone to replace the missing one and be able to get my phone to pair? It seems like I should be able to pair it once I can get the original/replacement set to allow me to get to, at least, another screen. Thanks!

You won't be able to use your phone without buying and installing a jaguar bluetooth module. the old phone was connected to the car via the dock in the armrest, used the vehicle mic and speakers to carry on a conversation. A BT module basically replaces the dock and permits bluetooth connection instead of direct phone port interfacing. Make sense?

Absolutely. Thanks! Now the hunt is on for a BTUM... (kinda as I need to figure out the tilt/telescoping steering wheel issue and Adpt Cruse as well)

There are a few options for getting phone connectivity, depends on what you want exactly.

Your car has the Motorola Startac mobile dock by the looks, extremely rare and the Startac was a special model with Jaguar-specific software in it. They came with a Jaguar logo on them & all. If you bought an old Startac it still wouldn't work.

Given that the Startac needed Jag-specific software, I doubt very much that you could hack a modern Razor into the system.

The next step up is the Motorola "fixed" handset. These actually work really well, but you need a separate sim card. You should be able to pick these up cheap since a lot of people have taken them out of the cars when doing the bluetooth upgrade.

I actually still have that one in my XJR, despite having the full bluetooth kit sitting here, been 2 years and i haven't got round to putting it in yet...

Then for the bluetooth there are two versions.

The early cars need a different phone module, plus the bluetooth module, and the wiring is also different (5 wires vs. 8 wires, the BT needs 8 wires)

But the very last X-Types got a special phone module, which is actually the best one to get. And apparently it doesn't need the BTUM to work?

Thank you VERY much for this. I will certainly do more research before I make a decision, but I cannot look in the right place without info like this to know where to look! IF you would consider parting with your BT kit, I may be interested. Please let me know if that's the case.

Respects,
Jason
