my cat purrs no more - engine stalls
Very odd. I was driving home today, stopped by the grocery store. Comming back from the store car started - 10 seconds later motor shuts off. Started again, motor goes to low RPM, the ECU it trying to keep the RPM up, but fails and motor stalls. Tried several time same thing. No warning lights, nothing. CEL was iluminated after the engine stopped, but goes off when it starts. The CEL and all other lights illuminate before I crank the engine, so the lights are working. Got a full tank of gas today - so it has gas.
Any ideas?

Even more bizare. One hour later, armer with my notebook and my ELM327 USB>OBD II scanning gizmo, I went back to the car. The tools says no trouble codes except P1111 panding, but that is OBD check complete.
Car started and engine was rinning fine, went home with no issues.
Ghost?

That sounds like a loss of fuel pressure from your description, which will not flag a DTC on 4.0L cars. If memory serves, yours is a 4.2 and so I caan't speak from experience in this case. But I would be testing fuel pressure/ pump operation before I looked anywhere else.
If you don't have a fuel pressure guage sitting around, an easy check for this problem would be to replace therelays for the two fuel pumps. This car has a saddle tank with a main pump and a trim pump to keep both sides at the same level. There is also a module to govern the trim pump so it may be an issue. You might change the fuel filter too.
Thanks JTO and oldsmots for the advice. It has been running fine ever since.
I'll change the fuel filter on my next stop to the shop.

two months no issues, same thing happened today. after 1 hour in traffic, I stopped to fill the tank, went home.
10 minutes later the car starts and engine stops (rpm goes too low).
I waited 2 hours and after it cooled down it started with no issues.
Very curious.

Same answer. I'd get it scanned with IDS, your setup is not all-inclusive. Absent of any codes, I would be fitting a fuel pressure gauge, or carrying one in the car to test when the fault develops. Only other resort is to wait until it gets worse

I just get the feeling that you may have a throttle body issue, you might get it checked at the dealer. The throttle body has the drive by wire system and it may have a bad sensor. At least, pull the connectors off of it and spray them with electronics cleaner.
