New Owner is perplexed by beeping when stopped
I am a new owner of a 2007 XJ Super 8 and I have a perplexing situation. When I come to a stop, not every time mind you, I get anywhere from 1 to 5 very loud beeps. No messages on the display. Sometimes it’s one long beeeeep. Other times there is a pattern, beep, pause then anywhere from one to 5 rapid beeps.
I have looked through the owners guide and been to the dealer. The dealer was as perplexed as I am. It is not the front proximity radar and the beeps occur when nothing is in front of the car as well as when there is. The dealer flashed the ECU with no effect.
I assume the car is trying to tell me something, any ideas?

The only reference I can find to audible warnings like this is if there's an issue with intrusion or inclination sensors. However, there's several alarm options on your XJ can be activated/deactivated by the dealer depending on market and purchaser preference.
It's ridiculous that a Jaguar Dealer cannot answer the question. Before flashing the ECU surely they checked for DTC's?

What kind of vehicles are around you when the beep occurs? I have noticed that semis passing by will set off my proximity sensors even when they should be out of the range of the sensors. It could be some sort of frequency interference from their engines or something. It does not happen all the time, but often enough that I have picked up on the fact that a semi is always passing by when it goes off.
I'm guessing it's your Forward Alert sensor (part of the adaptive cruise control system). It's easily inadvertently activated and will warn you when you get 'too close' to something directly in front of you. To de-activate, press the button directly between the fuel filler door and trunk release buttons. See also the ACC section of the handbook for more info (page 151 of the 2006 handbook).
Hope this helps.

My front parking sensors beep randomly when I come to a stop, I know it's the front parking sensors because I don't have adaptive cruise, and if you turn the sensors off with the button in the roof console the beeping is gone.
This problem has been reported by members on the UK forum as well.
I don't know what to do about it, but it was suggested that perhaps one of the sensors at the front was starting to fail, or perhaps in the wrong position.

I have an idea that it may be something to do with the sat nav system.I used to get a single beep when passing a particular place. Possibly "places of interest" or destinations put into the sat nav.Try clearing them out?

And the winning suggestion is.......

The beeps stop immediately when the button on the roof console is pushed.
I want to thank everyone for their suggestions.
This is why I join the owners forum for every car I own.

I have exactly the same intermittent problem. The beep(s) disappears when the car reaches 1000 rpm, but my problem is definitely the proximity (radar) sensors because I can switch them off with the overhead console switch. I had all the sensors checked at the local dealer who declared that they are all ok, but I now have to remove the bumpers to check for a cabling fault.
I hope this helps. Good Luck.

A dealer should be able to plug their diagnostic computer in to the car and monitor the individual sensors in real time to see which one is sensing something. I managed to borrow the gear for my car and eventually found out that the number plate surround was being detected occasionally.
Thanks for the contributions, as I was getting annoyed by the adaptive cruise control deciding that it was going to give warnings all the time while driving in town.
It did have the attendant message "Driver Intervene", so I had a hint.
