Default P0193 Fault code P0193 with erratic fuel pressure

Hello, on my x350 4.2 I occasionally get a ‘stumbling’, almost misfire esc sensation, more often after 30 mins driving.

Looking at live data from my OBD, my fuel pressure shows as fluctuating between 32 and 71 PSI (mainly at 52 when running well).
It also throws error code P0193 (Fuel Rail pressure sensor circuit high bank1) after I have had the problem.

So my questions are, Is the sensor reading controlling the pressure and it is faulty or is it just reporting a fault from the pump?

Thank you
Peter

Whichever you like but the point is that either the sensor or its circuit appears bad. Commonly it's the sensor...

Thank you everyone for replying.

It’s around 90K.

The point I was trying to clarify (and probably worded wrong) is, does the faulty sensor CAUSE the erratic pressure or is it’s function just to report it?
The research I have done makes me think that the pressure regulator is built into the pump, and this must be faulty for me to get 70psi or 30psi (reported by ODB) when it should be 50ish. BUT is the ODB getting that information from the (may be) faulty sensor?
Ether way, there seems to be a fuel starvation issue when the ODB reading is off.

The easier (and cheaper) thing to change is the sensor, so I will start there, but my gut tells me I will need to change the pump as well lol

From the Jag doc you can see the list of known causes. The sensor/wiring/etc look to be very much there, the pump not so much.

It stands to reason that if the sensor/wiring/etc result in no useful value for the PCM to use, then actual fuel pressure is not going to be right, at least some (maybe a lot) of the time, so the engine can't perform properly.

I haven't looked, but there are usually pinpoint/other tests for more than just the actual sensor so I'd do those if changing the sensor doesn't fix it. Pump would be my thing after that lot.

Thanks JagV8, will order a sensor and do the pin checks whilst I am playing in the area.

Second hand Ford Focus Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor is the way to go in my opinion. I bought an aftermarket sensor and it did not work. Ford one did!

This below courtesy of Forum Member Datsports

id just like to confirm , the ford fuel pressure sensors /regulator with these cross over no#s do fit the jaguars ,
x type / xk8 & r / s type & R from 2002.5 / xj8 & r x350.
but mainly pointing this out for the s type and x350 stickies.
as its proven.

FORD part no#
3R3E9F972AA this part is fitted to the supercharged x200 and x350 ! ,
below obviously only the no#s are different not the part .
Cross Ref:

F8CF-9F972-BG
F8CF-9F972-BH
F8CZ-9F972-BC
F8CZ-9F972-BE

and also the Genuine Intermotor
standard part no# FPS17
is the only aftermarket equivalent to all the above part no#s

thanks hope this helps some one .

I didn't. Got nothing against it, sounds like a good idea? As I understand it (I'll be corrected if wrong) some cars have a Shrader-type valve near the fuel inlet pipe on the rail? Mine does not?
I simply released the supply fitting at the rail using the appropriate tool (this sort of thing):
Amazon Amazon

Okay, some fuel came out, but my car had been sat stationary for a while, so not very much at all? Obviously, battery disconnected!
