Default Park brake missing cable?

Hi I just bought this as I described in my introduction. I have several problems number one I get a park brake error I can hear the motor run I checked the cables they are free and the levers are free on the calipers. However on the driver side the cable comes from the lever on the caliper up to a certain point and there is a end on the cable but it's not hooked to anything on the passenger side the cable runs all the way across to the driver side wheel and then up to the motor and hooks into the motor I have no idea where the cable is that supposed to hook to the driver side rear can anybody help me where this is supposed to hook onto or if I am missing a cable I see no where to hook this thanks in advance

It might be helpful if you uploaded a photo of what you are seeing. I'm sure someone can then help direct you as to where the cable needs to be connected.

Thanks,

Chris

Both cable side by side

Cable end opposite end of cable that connects to caliper hooked to nothing
Here are two pictures the first one is the end of the cable away from the caliper the second one shows the other cable alongside of it going to the right side

This is a pic of my lhs rear wheel parking brake lever and attached cable. Mine is a 2005 XJR so not sure whether mine would be the same as yours.

In any event there should be a lever on the parking brake I would think.

Ok do you have Brembo brakes?

According to my workshop manual if you do not you only have the one handbrake caliper.

Default One caliper

Thank you I have just regular brakes I believe nothing is Fancy on this car I can hear the motor run when I pull up on the parking brake lever but it's not moving the cable down by the caliper. And I get the error message park brake malfunction any ideas that does not look like it's very easy to get to the motor if that's the problem

Looks like there is something wrong with either the motor or the cable connection to the motor.

It really does not look easy to get to I agree.

Yes it looks like the cables are not being pulled and therefore tightened to engage the parking brake.

Default Thanks

Well it looks like I'm going to find out how hard it is to get that out I think there is something wrong in the motor assembly it's not moving the cable in or out even though it does run

Looks like you found one of the reasons it was for sale, hopefully the only one

Both my XJ8's had issues when purchased, just like most anything used does.

Couple grand to put each one right, and have cars that look & run great.
