Unhappy "restricted performance"

I drive an XJ 4.2, 2005/2007. Recently, (2 months ago) I noticed the message "RESTRICTED PERFORMANCE" flashing on the display panel. A few days later, while driving I suddenly lost response from the accelerator; car just idled along and depressing the gas pedal (even to the floorboard) brought no response. Took the car to the garage and they said something about the sensors after doing a diagnostic check. Got the car back and all was well until 2 weeks later when the same occurred. We've been going back and forth since then and the problem persists. If I switch off the engine and wait a few minutes, the car seems restored but a few days after, it happens again.
Can anyone help, please?

You really need to log the codes associated with the error message - invest in a OBD2 code reader, or unless your dealer is diagnosing for free - ask for a readout of the diagnostic check next time it happens (or even the last one they performed. You mentioned sensors - which ones exactly (I'm guessing lambda/O2 but could be one of many on the car....). The codes may not always be definitive but more often then not will point you in the right direction...

Your car is an X350, not an X308, you might find you have more luck here

Thumbs up Thanks

I did not say my car is a 308, grandell but thanks for the interest shown. I hope that this forum will assist me in getting a solution to this problem. I am also learning so much about my car here.

Relax. He is simply telling you to ask the people that drive the SAME MODEL as yours. We discuss X308s here (1998-2003), and speaking only for myself, I know a LOT about X308, but I've never even sat in X350.

Your chances to find the solution to your problem will be MUCH better in X350 forum.

Have the battery load tested. (I now own a X350) 04 XJ8 - you might find the battery is not holding up to specs - before throwing money at the issue.
