Sat nav
Nope, the only XJ that could have NAV added was the 2000-2001 models; and they only had turn-by-turn in the radio display, no screen map.
Sorry.

It depends how much effort you want to go to. The process is documented here:

Yes! I have done it to my 04XJ. There is a lot of work involved. My (early)Xj did not have the harness and I had to fabricate it. Connectors are nonexistent from Jaguar. IDS required to program the system to vehicle.
Definitely not a do-it-yourself-er.

I'm sorry folks, the people I'm used to dealing with are not generally as resourceful as the group here. I have to try harder to remember that. Jaguar did not intend, or make provisions to add options like NAV to these cars after the fact, and I had forgotten that someone on the forum had documented actually working out how to accomplish it.
Again, my apologies.

Sadly it appears to be an industry standard for many vehicles. Not sure if the manufacturers assume that no one would ever want to add factory options or if it is intentional to prevent their addition at a later date. I mean, would it not make it easier for them to build all the cars with the same harnesses and make all of the electronics compatible, whether it be a basic head unit or a nav, even if all of the wiring were not necessary, it could still be there for dealer installed upgrades/add-ons.

I am thinking about SAT NAV retrofit in my '04 XJ.
Where did you get the connectors for harness ? What kind of programming is required to IDS ? by dealer ?
Regards
Paul
I just finished Sat Nav retrofit in my XJ 350. The whole thing was very similar to described at jagurforum.co.uk X-type retrofitting. I bought custom harness from jostaffs and I did it . I highly recommend it to all X-type, S-type and XJ owners as DIY job ! Best regards, Paul
Anything is possible with enough time and money. However, I think adding the nav would be more than it's worth, especially since the nav is so 90's, technology wise. If I were buying a new car I wouldn't pay for the nav unless it were something like the GM CUE system.
I concur with gmcgann:
Along with a rather dated and cumbersome navigation system comes a whole lot of soft ware communications for the audio, aircon etc etc, When the nav system throws a wobbler, as mine has just done it causes havoc with the other systems. I now have a black screen the heater is blowing full blast and I am faced with a bill equivelent to some small countries GDP.
Having encountered this problem, it was with much sadness that expected "End of the World" was postponed ! Ahhh the trials and tribulations of a Jaguar owner
A happy Christmas to all.
