Default spare key

Does anyone know the best way to get a spare key? It would need to be coded to match the one key I have. My local Jaguar dealer's prices are outrageous. Car is Jaguar XJ6 V6 Sport Auto, January 2004

Some locksmiths may be able to do it - try a Timpsons. Might need to take them a blank but ask.

Got mine used, on Ebay, the key part itself is small, the pin that holds it in place comes out replace the key part, cut, then reprogram. I found a locksmith selling them reasonable as he had several to sell

I bought a blank key/remote off ebay
Got the key part cut by a locksmith
Got the transponder programmed by local indie
Programmed the remote myself.
Cost a fraction of the 300+ it would have cost at the dealers

Also, If you only have one working key (which is all I had), when the new transponder is coded you have to erase your existing key and reprogramme both using the jag software. It took my guy only 10 mins and most of that was waiting for the software to start up.
The dealer will charge an hours labour for this at some sky high rate.

A bit difficult to find a locksmith with all the apparatus to do it around here, only one that i know of. The used remotes with keys, were all Jaguar, not knock offs, from a locksmith on Ebay. Key blanks were not Jaguar, but everything else is, so they work great. Cutting, with programming if you only have one, will cost more, but after that, you can program all you want, up to about 8 keys to fit each car yourself.

Some replacement key fobs or parts are available here:
https://www.banggood.com/search/jaguar.html

Of course you still have to get keys programmed, but at least the hardware is cheap.
(I've had many dozens of orders from this Chinese source with nary a problem)(though not key fobs)
Anyway, the prices are next to nothing.
