Temperature going to Red
Hi all, have a problem with Jaguar XJ X350 over heating..... this seems to follow the air con blowing hot air, then temp gauge rockets up..... has anyone had this problem or knows a solution??

Lots of threads on this and lots of possibilities including a problem with the thermostat, fans, blockage in cooling system, leak, even leaves/debris in between radiators. Also wrong coolant being used.
Do not drive with the idiot gauge showing temp in red as the engine probably was in danger before the idiot gauge was in the red.

Start with the inexpensive troubleshooting/repairs. Do you have enough coolant in your system (no "Engine Coolant Low" warning)? If so, try bleeding any air out and refilling. I had air in my coolant system after a few project and it caused the temp gauge to shoot up pretty quickly
Do you have any ongoing leaks? Like John mentioned, thermostat is also a good starting point. Keep us updated.

Have you checked the coolant level ?

Hi Faz, And check the thermostat housing is not cracked or leaking. The thermostat housing also contains the thermostat and coolant temp sensor so worth checking the condition. If the housing is very old then it's worth just changing it as a precaution and the housing in the UK is pretty cheap at the moment from a couple of jaguar parts suppliers. I just changed mine and it's not that bad to change. I bought the housing which comes with the thermostat and coolant temp sensor included.
