Rent a brake kit to add a flange to your pipes and use 2 claps per end than just one. This will prevent the hoses from popping off. Also verify that the hoses are hydraulic grade. NAPA sells heavy duty hydraulic grade hoses by the foot for cheap. I did exactly this rather than buying a new oem set singe these still have problems.

Correct me if I am wrong, it appeared that the spilled oil has a red tint similar to Ford oil. I am guessing that the previous owner purposely cut the line to flush the system to replace with Ford oil once already.

Possibly but more than likely the original fitting was weeping. This is a known fix, opposed to replacing the line

Update: Got the line put together, Mercon fluid added, and drove it the 500 miles home with out any issues. Thanks again to everyone for the helpful hints. Now that I am home and in my own garage i plan to replace the lines correctly, and probably do a tranny filter/flush while I'm at it just to make sure everything is good.

For a proper repair, use a double flaring tool to create a barb on the 1/2" aluminum line ends, and then get 1/2" ID transmission hose from your local NAPA store and use fuel injection clamps like this.
