If you can use a small screw driver between any 2 fingers and rotate anti-clockwise. Continue until you can grasp the outer ring with two fingers and continue rotating anti-clockwise.
Das is der springlflugel!

Thanks, Six Rotors; yes, I figured that I could either screw or pry them off. I find it interesting that the manual doesn't mention them by name. If I knew the name, I could search for a tool to help with the ones that are difficult to reach. Apparantly, "Right to Repair" is a vague concept to...

OK, I think they are called "star lock washers". Some are push on. Straight snap ring pliers seem to be one tool for removal. There are others, all looking somewhat like right-angle needle nose.

Similar to what is on the disc rotors,2 per rotor. I use my little screw driver to begin rotating them and then take them off with fingers. I do push them on with a long right sized socket.

We call them "Klemmscheibe" or "Sicherungsscheibe" in German.
There is a version of these that has a hole in two of the fingers, so that you can use narrow pointed pliers to unscrew them:

When I did the valley hose job and put back the false bulkhead, I did not use them again as the thread on the Jaguar also accomodates standard nuts (which is not the case on many other cars), so I used a nut and a bigger washer. Makes future works much easier...

Best regards,

Thomas

Thanks, Guys!
Thomas, I had noted your replacement with washers and nuts &, assuming I get to putting things back, I had planned to do the same. As you know, some of these are in awkward places. And can be put on with a a socket with extension, etc.

Yep, the idea behind the nuts and washers was to make future works easier. It's one of the things were you can see that car manufacturers try to save money, even in the luxury sector...

Don't worry, you will get there! If you think that you are stuck, stop working and take a break, it works wonders... at least it did for me.

Best regards,

Thomas

Thanks! Exactly! I am going to go back to the Stickies, etc. Idea being, now that I'm a wee bit more familiar... We're headed to TX for Easter. Won't have much time to devote to the car until after the 1st.

VW/Audi uses them A LOT on exhaust shields and fender liner type plastic shields.

Yep, they do. I have 2 Audi's and 2 VW's, as well.

Unfortunately, in those cases the threads they use do not allow a replacement with normal nuts and washers.
