Water pump replacement 04 Jaguar XJ8
Hi guys,
I am loosing coolant daily and found a big amount under the car , checked the coolant reservoir and hoses and they look fine but the squeaking from the serpentine belt and the leak coming from the water pump makes me think I have a faulty water pump leaking on the drive belt and causing the noise or a faulty pulley as well.
I need some information about how to replace the water pump of my XJ8 , year 2004. The dealership quoted me $600 and i don’t like it . I am handy so why not doing it myself. I have been checking you tube videos of how to do it but I have not found any installation video of how to on an XJ8 . is it difficult?
I have an idea of how to do it but I don’t want to encounter any unexpected problems during the install.
So has someone in here went through this type of replacement before ?

It is not that difficult to do. Draining the coolant is probably the most tedious part of the job.
Just make sure the torque settings are accurate on re-installation.

Yes, the throttle body comes off as well.
Forget what else needs to be removed. the shop manual shows you
Lots of drawings, it's very helpful in accomplishing the task.
Believe I did the idler pulley from underneath, for better access.
Take your time, read, then read again, ask if you get stuck.
You will feel great afterwards knowing you saved money, & fixed it yourself.

Have not yet replaced the 04's pump, with the thermostat & housing yet.
But their on the shelf, with new tensioner & idler pulley bearing.
Takes the same one as the 07, which i replaced.
Answer to the question with the new pump.
No o'ring with my new pump, so far no leaks.
The original was not leaking.
But the thermostat housing had internal issues, requiring it's replacement.
Preventive maintenance, as i was already there.
But their on the shelf, with new tensioner & idler pulley bearing.
