I did it twice on my old 05 XJ8. If you're handy, it's not difficult at all. Here's a very basic step-by-step:

1. You'll have to drain the coolant first. Refer to the attachment.
2. Remove the air intake tube.
3. Disconnecting the big coolant hose and moving it aside will give you more room to work.
4. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts before removing the belt.
5. After belt is removed, remove the water pump pulley.
6. I think there's 4 or 5 bolts that hold the water pump to the engine. Remove those and pull the pump free.
7. Clean up all the mating and nearby surfaces and then bolt the new pump on with the new gasket. I always use a tiny bit of sealant to help keep the gasket on straight during installation.
8. Tighten water pump bolts to 8nm + 90 degrees. Reinstall pulley but don't tighten bolts yet.
9. Reinstall belt. Refer to attachment.
10. Tighten pulley bolts to 10nm + 45 degrees.
11. Reconnect the big coolant hose and reinstall the intake tube.
12. Refill and bleed the coolant, as per the attachment.
13. Grab a Guinness.

Use a 6 point socket to remove the bolts. Last thing you want to do is round the bolt head. (Take it from experience...)

Also, follow torque spec and use a torque wrench. Sometimes once you get to the 8Nm the +90 deg is hard to accomplish.

Some bolts may only go +45 to +60 deg. Off that happens don't force it to +90 deg.

It's ok provided you get to the 8Nm.
