1995 XJ6 Rear Upper Shock Bushings
Thanks again Parker, I actually printed out what you posted and gave it to them. They know what they are doing but stuff like that helps them cut to the chase and figure out exactly what's going on. This place has been in business for 70 years, they get all kinds of foreign cars but not a whole lot of 30+ year old Jaguars (other than mine).
There is a place almost next door to them called Euro Classics, one of the most reputable vintage/classic shops in the country...it's all they do. They are very expensive but they can do stuff like completely rebuild an Etype engine and electrics. I haven't had to resort to using them yet, but they are there if something is a little too esoteric for the place I've been using for decades.
I'll report back what they find, they are hoping to test everything by Wednesday or Thursday. Many thanks to all of you again.

Update on all of this--it was the crankshaft position issue.
Cheers to you, Parker, for nailing this on your very first post about this. Upper rear shock bushings go in early this week and then the car will be running and riding like new.
Thanks to all of you for your help.
