Default 1995 XJR Engine Number Location?

Need help finding the engine number location on my 1995 XJR motor to buy the correct head gasket and above gasket set? Can anyone tell me where the engine number is located on the block? Also, Jagbits is offering a 1995 XJR heard gasket and above set for $693! That price seems very high. Does anyone know of another quality source with better gasket prices?

The Jaguar 'A' pages were part of the JEPC.
Here is the .pdf for the X300.

The engine number is near the CMPS (formerly the distributor location) stamped in the block.

JLM12305 to engine >107674

JLM11649 from engine 107675>

I don't know the difference.

I have so many gasket set remnants from the AJ6/AJ16 repairs over the years at the dealer that I just buy the head gasket and get the rest of the parts from my gasket collection.

I had a stack of head gaskets because I left the head in-situ when I replaced the valve stem seals when they wore out and the engine smoked on startup.
The gasket set was still cheaper than individual gaskets but I only used a few out of the set.

Everyone else in the Jaguar shop removed the head to replace the stem seals. I sat cross-legged on the engine and did them one cylinder at a time.

I ran out of head gaskets and I am running low on complete parts sets after quitting the dealer in 2006.

Bob, thanks for the tip on location. Your information is cryptic to me. CMPS has 14 definitions from Coal Mines Pension Scheme to Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies? I am not familiar with the "former distributor location"? On GM motors that can be on the front or back of the block at the valley pan level?

So for the Jaguar ignorant, is the engine number stamp on my 1995 XJR on the front or back of the top area of the block or on the front of back of the bottom of the block? Or where????

Bob, I was referring to GM distributor location on their V8 motors. Their Chevy 235 in-line 6 distributor was as I remember located on left/passenger side of the motor in the middle of the block front to back. So in my mind, a Jaguar distributor could be anywhere on the 4.0L block?

Thank you Jaguar Forum and member Larry Loutan, I have spent this summer repairing the #6 cylinder exhaust valve leak and restoring the car in general. Larry Loutan of Venice, FL has helped me with his 95 XJR knowledge, tools and new parts - could not have done this repair without his assistance! When I got the timing chain cover off and removed or tried to remove the two 6th cylinder exhaust valve springs, found the last one = #12 exhaust valve assembly had self destructed bending the valve shaft and the bucket. Had to weld a bolt on the bucket to pull it out it was so deformed. With that diagnosis, Larry offered me his brand new, in the box, numbers matching 95 XJR cylinder head with cams and the associated gasket kit. He walked me through the head removal, new head pre-oiling and installation. Timing an XJ6/XJR after head replacement is a once in a lifetime experience! The repaired XJR motor runs great and I have been repairing other problems that showed up once it was running - i.e. check engine, ABS and Track-fail lights on dash. Airbag light still on and working on that diagnosis shortly as it is not connected to the ODB II system? The oil pressure transmitter was malfunctioning showing 0 oil pressure and my oil light coming on at a stop light so, replaced it with a new one and now have reasonable oil pressure readings. I am finishing up repainting the hood, roof and trunk lid which had sun damage from the Florida sun. - then its just nits to finish this restoration = radio antenna operation, is the CD player working?, rear brake job and finding a 17 in Jaguar wheel as mine came without a spare wheel/tire?
