1996 XJ6 Remote Keyless entry question
hello everyone, I just purchased a 1996 XJ6 and it did not come with the remotes. I purchased a 315mhz remote thinking it would work, but it didnt. When I went to program the remote through the valet, it made the noise like it accepted the code but when I go to unlock the doors it wouldnt work, The remote does work it lights up green when you hit the unlock button, and red when you hit the lock button. Do I maybe need the 433.92mhz remote? How can I find out for sure, because I dont wanna spend anymore money on a remote that may not work. Can I maybe fin out by vin number, or security module number? Please let me know ASAP, thanks.
I *think* all the 1996 USA-market cars were 433
Search the archives ....keywords 315 and 433 oughta do it....and there's lots of info, including a PDF of a Jag bulletin on how to identify which frequency your car is set-up for.

I'm afraid this won't help anyone with a solution, but FYI I have also hit a brick wall - and I DO have the original key fobs! They obviously hadn't been used for some time (before I bought the car). Recently I decided to give them a go and renewed the batteries. The lock/unlock lights work, tried several times to reprogram using the valet switching sequence which made all the right noises, no joy at all. I get the impression these things are a common weakness. I suspect that getting a dealer involved will cost, cost, cost, so for now I'm content to keep using the key!
The problem is the buttons get knackered or don't make contact with the board. Sometimes you can open them up and wedge a piece of card in to force the connection.
If not, just buy any generic two button device with the right frequency. I just bought a couple of 315MHz units (from a Saab 900) for just $20 ea. Work great and look similar to the factory units.

I've heard about the Saab 900 thing.
Is there a particular year range or Saab part number to look for?

I believe it is MY94-98-ish The part number is LTQFM433 Don't worry about the 433 bit, it is actually a 315MHz transmitter. You can normally find loads of them on Ebay for around $20-30
My 1995 XJR 4.0 is a Hong Kong model (same as UK?) and the original Jaguar key fob carries a label that says "Jaguar LNA2610BA 314MHz". Never came across 314MHz in the web search (except 433 and 315). Even offers in eBay UK say 433MHz. I recently replaced the batteries inside and the red and green lights flash OK during testing, but they fade with more attempts, and do not open the door. Has anyone tried after-market replacement? Saab I heard plays the trick (some even claim Ford remote key is good) but the uncommon 314MHz specs on the original key fob boggles me.
That is odd. Governments generally decide which frequencies are allowed for radio communication, so it's maybe something that the Hong Kong government mandated? Does seem strange though. I noticed in the parts list that is gave a part number of LNA2670CA for Hong Kong, maybe that is the superseded number? It doesn't say what the frequency is but does say that the transmitter is required to have a special type approval label on the back. I'm wondering if it was just a silly spelling mistake? Wouldn't be the first for Jag
The Saab remotes from the 94-98 900 series do work with the MY95 cars that have 315MHz systems, I use one myself. Might be worth picking up a used one on Ebay, part number LTQFM433 ($20-30) and having try?
