Default 1997 Vanden Plas - Bit of knowledge needed please

Hello all!, My Vanden has 12 total speakers and I have verified the sub is in the deck lid labeled Harman Kardon, Does this mean I have the upgraded radio version?. I have scoured the forums looking to see if anyone has a line on a wiring harness for the advanced system to place an aftermarket stereo. I've also came to the conclusion 6.5" speakers will in face work in the doors. Please point me in the right direction if possible. - Jacob

I answered my initial question, Poking around the trunk I discovered the amp sitting on top of the CD changer. Will the standard wiring harness work minus the line level?. If I'm correct does anyone know of a RCA to line lever harness?.

Have you got an amp in the trunk? If so you have the upgrade. You should.

The standard and premium setup use the same head unit from Alpine as a AJ9500A the wiring diagrams can be found in section 18.1 and 2 :

The speakers can be repaired yourself as you replace the cone foam and the mounting foam

There have been a few threads about this upgrade, but I don't know of anyone who successfully changed to a new head unit with the premium sound system. There are several incompatibilities. I suppose it's possible given the will and expertise.

There are two main problems with the conversion:

1. The aftermarket adapter for our Jaguar will not properly feed the amplifier; it is only for direct connection of an aftermarket head unit to the existing direct-to-speaker wiring in a non-premium (no amp) car. The original head unit uses different pins to output to the trunk amplifier.

2. It would be even more complicated to maintain functionality of the 6-disc CD changer in the trunk. There is a separate multi-pin round connector for the CD player that fits directly into the back of the original head unit.

Given that you would probably have other inputs available with a new head unit, and possibly a cd player in it, you could do without the trunk cd changer. So just focus on problem #1. A custom wiring harness would have to be made according to the wiring schematics for the amplifier, to match its inputs. We could assume that the inputs are line-level RCA type signals, although I can't confirm that.

I'm sure more discussion will follow. An interesting question to start off with, no doubt. Welcome to the Forums!

Thank you, I;m going to take on the task for everyone. I will document it thoroughly while trying to decipher the schematics and pin-outs. Still looking for additional direction if anyone reading this has attempted the task.

Below is the pinout of the Jaguar / Alpine AJ9500A white square connector used in the standard setup . The pins for the lights are the 3 and 4 to be updated later . The white connector map follows but mine does not have the external Harman Kardon amplifier in the rear and the final head unit amplifier ( 2 X Toshiba TA8221 file below ) in the head unit drives the speakers .

The XK8 and the X3083 use the same setup

Speaker repair video $ 8 each in parts :

Speaker Repair Video

There is the subwoofer repair size 6 x 9 also available in this link :

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...%24%24-189914/

I'm trying to map out an external input jack other then tapping into the cassette output into the main board and using the 8 pin DIN connector with line in relays to make a easier DIY modification for others

The white square connector has a pinout on the circuit board but I haven't tried to hard to remove it to get to the 8 pin DIN pinout

The LCD typically ghost out and the driver is available but the display is not so I'm developing a repair for that using the original LCD part

This is more than helpful, my parts will be here Friday express shipping from the mother land (UK). It's hard to get an oscilloscope in the cab viewable. These pin-outs are gold. I'll keep checking the edits, thank you Sir

The 8 pin DIN connector is from somewhere else then the specific example so the colors and function will be different

Never could find a breakout sheet for both the tan and black 8 pin connectors .

Yes I can! The inputs are Low Level ("line level" as I described them) according to the schematic, on the pinout/connector description page for Figure 18.3. That's why they are in a shielded cable, of course!

Getting very close!, I'm excited. Today I installed a backup camera dashcam combo that uses a new rearview mirror with a screen in it. It works very well and the install is flawless. I did notice I have no tweeters in the deck lid tweeter holes, I'm wondering the they're vents or some models had tweets in them?.

Good eye - the rear tweeters were relocated to the rear door panels with your premium audio. Also the front tweeters went from the dash to the A pillars. Different, yes. Better, not sure. FYI, the service manuals refer to the audio systems as ICE: In-Car Entertainment. So you've got Premium ICE!

Neat option and good idea for a back-up cam. Looking forward to hearing about whatever is in that package!
